No, it wouldn't work, especially maps. Also, it's still really buggy, and has issues with sound playback that's really annoying for long sound files. I'd just stick with SFM1, it can still look really good if you do the lighting properly.

You could export a DMX and import it back when you want to (just deselect the root bone when importing). It's a harder process otherwise. I'll try to make a basic guide:
1. Decompile the model with Crowbar (https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/groups/CrowbarTool)
2. Open the QC in Notepad and add a line: $sequence animations/WHAT_YOU_WANT_IT_TO_BE_CALLED.smd right after $modelname
3. Install Blender and the Blender Source Tools (http://steamreview.org/BlenderSourceTools/)
4. Create the animation in SFM and press export .dmx
5. Export it anywhere, as long as you don't lose it.
6. Go to Blender and import the qc file you got when decompiling.
7. Import the dmx file you got from SFM.
8. Go to the second tab on the right (scene editor)
9. Scroll down until you find Blender Source Tools
10. Select an export location and press export (smd).
11. Rename the smd you got when exporting to WHAT_YOU_WANT_IT_TO_BE_CALLED.smd, and move it to decompiledfiles/animations
12. Open crowbar and compile the QC file.
13. Move the compiled .mdl file to the location the non-decompiled file was (e.g. SFM/Game/usermod/models/mystuff) and replace the old one.
14. Done!

Try going to sp_a2_core, then, with show other entities off (the default), go into game mode, noclip to the core room, and record for 2 seconds (or any small number). Then, press add animation set for existing elements to find glados and the panels. (HINT: The wall panels are called core_arms). It's how I do it.
