Those videos were by experienced animators with a lot of practice under their belt.

Coming into things fresh, I'd say you should watch Valve's tutorials, Jimer Lins' Tips of the Day, Zachariah's tutorials and basically practice a lot.

Check the model in the motion editor. You may need to use the Playhead preset to ensure that its pose is held infinitely.

Would I like to use it? Yes, very much so!
Do I want to pay $350+ to be able to do so? Nnnope!

It's key to get good at anything, really.

Look up the Twelve Basic Principles of Animation as described by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, and watch the Valve animation tutorials. Also, practice!

If you feel like a bit of spelunking Facepunch's SFM Resources thread[facepunch.com] has a bunch of useful stuff.

I've been dumping the new stuff straight into the TF folder with no issues, but since SFM is a fickle beast, it can't hurt to backup your tf folder first (if you have the disk space!)
