well, first things first: the Valve tutorials. The are extremely helpful and comprehensive on their own. I reccomend people to watch and follow along in order to learn the basics of just using SFM.

but if you've already done this, then really, your next step is just trial and error. Open up google, and whenever you have a question, do a google search. This is what I used to do to find solutions. Trust me, the SFM discussion forums have lots of helpful stuff inside, so finding those threads via google is very helpful

I personally don't do anything. I do all my storyboarding and planning in SFM itself. It's simple; just load up a new session, load up a map, and start placing models and cameras around, with a vague idea of what I'm going for. I find, that storyboarding and planning in SFM itself is a very useful, because instead of having an unrealistic idea of what I'm doing, I have all the models and map stuff on camera. I'll just place things around, maybe lightly animate, etc.

hmm, it looks nice and smooth. I noticed his face was facing upwards as he went down the stairs, maybe adjust that so his head does less bobbing and more looking straight on / upwards.

have you tried fiddling with the "weight link cull threshold" slider? That's what I use to get around this problem with exporting .dmx files. Raise it little by little and see if it the issue goes away.

alernatively, you can right click the viewport, click render settings, and uncheck motion blur sampling. This is good if you wanna keep the motion but render a good still image from it

no, not that I know of. Models and such would need to be converted over manually (and from what I've heard, hwm models don't work so well when converted)

try changing "vertexlitgeneric" to "unlitgeneric" instead (I'm assuming you're trying to make it glow)

hmm, cameras in SFM glitch out when they get to an FOV of 180, so I dunno. Maybe you can figure out some editing magic by using multiple 120 fov cameras and combining their seperate renders in post. As far as I know though, source will never go beyond 180
