Yay. Okay. For the next competition, the rules are simple. Make a room in a room in a room. How is up to you, but it must feel like a room in a room in a room, So if you had say a room that has one wall left out, it becomes debatable if that room is not just part of the bigger room with dividers. So I guess that means, each room must have 4 walls, a floor and a ceiling. These may have a window and a door, but when you remove an entire wall, floor or ceiling it no longer is a separate room. Glass and grating still count as a wall. It should not be possible to remove a wall completely during the course of the test in one way. For that matter, replacing a wall by a fizzler is a no. Putting a hole in the wall and put a fizzler there is a yes.

I can see where you're coming from. I've done a lot of competitions in the past, and one thing is for sure, this is impossible to do. Not just is it a pain to do this, but it doesn't defeat the purpose.

I dare to say that everyone here votes maps based on their experience on the map, rather than voting for someone. But even if someone would vote a map just because it was made by that person, if the map was only recognizable by its name, the voter would just ask his friend what mapname to vote for. By not having the people directly attached to the mapnames, it will be harder to catch someone cheating the system too, and cheating will always be possible.

I mean, there must be a way to identify every map, because how else can you vote for it? And by this way of identifying the map, you can give a link or name or whatever to those you got to vote for you.

For me, voting blind says: "I don't trust anyone". And the thing is, I do trust everyone in this group, which is why I think its pointless in the first place.

I do not think people will change their opinion just because a name is attached to it. In fact, if people play the map and they recognize a certain style, they'll get the same emotions which'll weight in their decision as much (or maybe even more) as if the name was attached in the first place.

There's no rule that says your chamber has to be big. You can make a small and enjoyable test with just 6 connections in a single room quite easily.

Don't forget to think with portals. As in, finding a way to go somewhere just by using portals has no connection limit of any kind which can make your map bigger or do certain things that otherwise may require a connection. Also, there are more ways in doing so than flinging.

This topic has sparked my creativity a bit in thinking what we could do with the competition.

As I'm working on getting ideas out, I'd like to get some feedback on one issue that restricts this most.

Lets be hypothetical here. There is another compo besides the ones we have now. What would be a good way for a prize? What would spark your motivation to do better and better in the next competitions? You may post about what this hypothetical competition would feature. Take any direction, doesn't even have to be about portal2. If you have an idea for an art compo, like only use the color green, post that.

Even though Donderbus has a point, so does Gemarakup. I want to thank Gemarakup for posting this simply because this is something that is an issue that most likely concern more people. True, you can never please everyone, I am aware of that, but I'll give this some thought and talk with Stagger Lee and see if we can find something to get this working.

The main issue is that I'd like people to be motivated to win a competition, and by giving the next suggestion, it could be a motivator. But I have plenty of ideas such as the few you are naming for a competition myself.

That said... if anyone has ideas on how this could work, feel free to post them so we can take them into consideration.

I loved this map for the fact that as you progressed, you could go back and forth in the map. Like a puzzle that grows larger as if it builds around you.

I haven't played much maps with the futbal, and the difficulty was very nice. Not that hard, but not too obviously easy either. I like that.

This was actually more hard because I have several nominees for the 3rd place. The map in question I liked most because it uses a different kind of puzzleset than what we usually have in the group, so it felt fresh.

Welcome to the group :) I was never implicating that all your maps were bad, only that I didn't had much fun in the one I commented on. I am not as skilled as some here are, and the fact that when I record with fraps and my framerate drops and thus I can't do certain ninja actions make things worse. But portal2 is very forgiving and most maps don't require ninja stuff so thats not a problem. I was able to do the jumps in your map but not easy.

Anyway, lets put that behind us and I hope to see some nice maps from you :)
