Problem with the trains on x64 Chromium Beta

I can confirm the problem. I will look into it carefully and will give later a detailed answer.

Edit:
Hiho!

First, let me thank you that you wrote a detailed report and not like other users with the message: "It won't work, fix it!"

Thank you.

But also keep in mind to always follow our guides, like the trouebleshooting.
Its neccesary to turn off all addons beside the one you want to test.
In our case: SW Base and SW Western, ect.

From now you don't have to worry about the issue anymore, we'll take care of it from here!

Also, I did my tests yesterday and noticed the same problem but with less train cars.
(Maximum of 10 wagons)

What we noticed was that the sliders of my trains randomly clipped in the rails of a map on straights and in curves. No matter if it's worldbrush or func_detail railways.
We also tested it with chromium on x32 startparameter, same issue.

After that, we made some research for the problem and we found out that many users have problem with physics behavior in general on chromium x86-64 branch.

Read these reports on github if you are interested:
https://github.com/Facepunch/garrysmod-issues/issues/5159
https://github.com/Facepunch/garrysmod-issues/issues/4756
https://github.com/Facepunch/garrysmod-issues/issues/4758

As far as we understand it seem that the following is happening:
Physic calculations are laggy on PCs with certain CPUs which causes my trains and wagons to derail. In our tests also prop-build-trains derail.

Our hope is to improve my train-sliders to make them a bit more stable for chromium x86-64. BUT it will never be a real fix, keep that in mind.

Maybe the trains and wagons will be still derail because it is a game-engine problem that we cant solve because it is to strange.

We will try our best to keep SW Trains rolling, best regards.

I notice that the trains act weird whenever I use them on Chromium x64 beta compared to non-beta Gmod. I'm not entirely sure why, but maybe the physics are messed up? I have no knowledge of modding, so I'm taking a shot in the dark with that.

But I digress. The problem I'm having is that whenever I am in Chromium beta, in multiple maps that I've used Sligwolf Trains on, all of them derailed very easily, sometimes even when going very slowly at a curve. I went ahead and did some testing before making this report just to make sure it wasn't a one-off thing. Here are the results.

Long Diesel
28 cars both tests
6-7 notches both tests (the little lines on the speedometer)
Non-beta: No derail
x64 Chromium: Derailed

Short Diesel
Non-beta: 10+ cars (I forgot to count before deleting them)
x64 Chromium: 13 cars
60 mph both tests
Non-beta: No derail
X64 Chromium: Derailed

Western Locomotive
18 cars both tests
Medium speed (Yellow) both tests
Non-beta: No derail
x64 Chromium: Derailed

The derail can happen to any car. I've had it happen to the engine while other times it happens to cars in the middle or rear of the train.

I see that Plisehon made a similar report back in March, 2023, but nothing came up due to the OP not replying. I looked at Grocel's comment in that post and he stated that Sligwolf's Trains were carefully tested on non-Beta and Chromium Gmod too (as of March 18, 2023)

Is it possible that the March 2024 update could have messed something up for the trains on the Chromium beta?

I almost forgot to mention: I did not take a video of it. However if you require that, I will do a 2nd test with video proof.

Additional note by SligWolf:
This issue has been reported to the official GMod GitHub. It is a proven bug in the physics engine.

  • Constantly updating our Lua code.
    • To be sure that everything works and look nice, we try to keep our Lua code up to date!
    • Recent progress can be seen here:
      - GitHub Version[github.com] of the SW Base. Mind the README!

  • Working on suggestions.
    • A kinda metro train based on the Stadler Siemens BR 483.

  • Planned long-term updates:
    • Reworking for the following addons below:
All SW addons that have in my opinion my old clunky models will get a rework eventually. Old models will be kept in the addon since the past shows that people wish that they should stay.

    • SW Western Loco:
More detail work for the whole pack to get it more to it's original the american western locomotive, The General 4-4-0.

    • SW Tram:
Interior need an visual upgrade, especially the driver cabin. Adding couplers will be considered if they are possible to get to work properly.

    • SW Bodygroup Car:
New entire model because the body looks not like it was intended and the interior has a bad look.

    • SW Limousine:
More details and a fresh look for the inside.

    • SW Trucks & SW Garbagetruck:
The scale of the trucks is not very good so they need a resize and the interior need a facelift. The trailers will also get a better size to fit for the whole look and a realistic looking coupler mechanism.

    • SW Racecar:
      The interior needs a refresh.

    • SW Police Siren:
Complete rework. The Siren will be an entity and should work with context menu to change sound, lights and model.
