Steam Preventing Screensaver and Sleep mode
ISSUE
If Steam is running minimized and is in the Store tab it prevents the computer from executing power profile settings like screensavers and sleep mode.

OS
Windows 11

STEPS
Select Store from the main menu
Minimize Steam (even to tray)
Execute `powercfg -requests` in an elevated command console.
RESULTS
`DISPLAY:
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\steamwebhelper.exe
Video Wake Lock`

EXPECTED
Unless I'm actively watching a video on Steam, it should not keep the display locked to on mode.

Hello, I have the same issue on my Win10...

Can confirm. As noted, it seems to only happen on the Steam Store when there's something resembling a video on the Store tab (e.g. animated promotional background images count). Rarely when there is no such video, the Store tab allows sleep fine.

A workaround is to remember to switch to the Library or another tab when starting/minimizing Steam.

And yeah Steam should never hold a wakelock for any video when not an active window.

How is happened in this background? When windows start immediately where standing is "Steam store" it will act as video playing or banner next product store which prevents enter computer sleep mode.

use this in your CMD adminstrator mode it fixed:
powercfg /requestsoverride process steamwebhelper.exe display system

…or you could just not have Steam load the store by default.

i set this line *powercfg /requestsoverride process steamwebhelper.exe display system* in cmd now and next i set requsts, result:

C:\Users\admin>powercfg -requests
DISPLAY:
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume3\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\steamwebhelper.exe
Video Wake Lock

So this line not work for helper((

I had this problem overnight when Steam didn't even have a window open, and setting the requestsoverride didn't cancel the lock. I was not on the beta at that point, though.

UPDATE: setting a requestsoverride does work! it still shows up in the /requests list, but it doesn't prevent sleep. I am free!

this bug is so annoying, above hints dont help at all

Can you show the output of “powercfg /requests” and “powercfg /requestsoverride”?
CritSec 9 Dec, 2023 @ 2:02am
Same here. Running 1701289036. The funny thing is my second PC doesn't exhibit this behavior. There's something about the interaction of Steam with whatever else is on the PC.

powercfg /requests
DISPLAY:
None.

SYSTEM:
None.

AWAYMODE:
None.

EXECUTION:
None.

PERFBOOST:
None.

ACTIVELOCKSCREEN:
None.
