Steam cannot be used in a window in linux mint (force-maximizes), and scaling
Ever since I've switched to linux, i've been struggling with this. The steam main window goes "full screen" and stays there. I can't make it smaller, only minimize it. I tried reinstalling steam from scratch and not touching the "rescale" option for the interface, and it worked for a few days, but today it went back to being force-maximized again out of the blue. it's rather annoying, because i use an auto-hiding taskbar and this behavior impedes the taskbar from showing up. and i have a huge screen that i don't want to be taken over entirely by just one program.

fix this s*** already! From what i've read, this issue comes from literally years ago. How is this still a thing?

also, maybe put some more customizable scaling options for the interface. Without scaling, it's a bit too tiny, but with scaling it feels like i'm using a 80 yo's phone with the huge buttons and all that. how about some middle ground?

i'm using linux because i don't want to use the cesspool of spyware, forced downgrades and ads that is windows. this is not linux's fault, it's valve's client for it that is the issue. hence the bug report. please use your brain before commenting.

I don't know if you have solved it already, but I had the same problem and I solved it by disabling "Scale text and icons to match monitor settings" on Steam Settings > Interface. I hope this helps.

I just was having the same issue, and Numero 1's solution solved it. Also, Icey, sucking up to a multi-billion dollar company is a really weird look. They aren't going to give you any good boy points for it.

Yeah i had tried that before, but in my case once the problem manifests, it only goes away when i wipe steam clear off my hard drive and install it again. which is what i did, because even the "friends" window was glitched in full screen. Now i'm being extra careful not to trigger the glitch again. basically only using steam in a window.

This fixed it for me... might be a little less work than some of the solutions I see here.

Put in to big picture mode

Press Alt+F4

Steam should have exited big picture mode and be able to restore and maximize at will. Hope this helps!
