My Steam clips/recordings won't load

Just sits there forever, hogging CPU cycles without doing anything. Clips just suddenly stopped working. Especially annoying because I usually need to clip somewhere in the last 30-40s and now I have to export the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing. I already tried reinstalling different drivers, getting H265 codec packs, etc.

It's the latest beta client releases. You can switch back to the stable release and clips should work normally there.

The stable release doesn't have Game Recording yet. At least, not for me.

The stable release just got the new performance monitor features like 2 weeks ago. I'm on the stable client for now because of this clips issue, and looking at Help > About Steam, I can see "Steam Client Build Date: Fri, Jun 27 22:07 UTC -08:00". That's how recent it is.

According to past Steam announcements, Game Recording was added to the stable release on Nov 5 2024. I have no idea how you could be getting a version of Steam that's somehow older than that.

Now that I switched back and forth between the Stable and Beta releases a few times, the option shows up. I'll go ahead and try the Stable release for now and come back with test results in a few hours.

Seems to work okay, but I'm missing that different DVR 'recording' that happens per game.

Edit: Turns out it was just not showing up because it wasn't at least 10 minutes long. Works fine now.
