Weird long delay when moving/uninstalling games via the Storage tab in Steam Settings while having a lot of screenshots
ISSUE
There's like a 1-minute weird delay when moving game files via the Storage tab in the Steam Settings. Not exactly sure but this may be related to my huuge screenshot folder (I have around 16.5k screenshots taking 5.77 GB of space): https://i.imgur.com/r5LAkTO.png

OS
Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (build 26100.4351)

PREREQUISITES
  • Have multiple Steam game libraries
  • Have a lot of screenshots?
  • The game you're moving needs to be on the same drive where your screenshots are stored?

STEPS
  1. Open Steam and go to its settings
  2. Switch to the Storage tab, select any game, click on Move, select a Steam library you want to move the game to and click on Move again

RESULTS
To a normal user, nothing happens after clicking the Move button. The Move button doesn't appear grayed out, disabled, or showing a loading button. It's like you didn't click it – it is still blue. The pop-up asking to which Steam Library move the game doesn't disappear. But if you wait for like a minute, finally pop-up with a progress bar will show up.

EXPECTED
The pop-up with progress bar should appear instantly, and it should not wait for Steam to iterate through all the screenshots (?).

OTHER INFO
  • This seem to also happen if you try to uninstall some game from that tab (although, here the initial pop-up is instant, you click that you agree to delete the game, and the pop-up disappears, the game is still on the list of installed games, you wait like 2 minutes, it finally disappears from the list)
  • I was not able to reproduce this on a clean install of Steam on a VM, but when I moved my userdata folder (with all those screenshots) there, I also started seeing this there
  • This isn't reproducible when moving the games normally – by that I mean, right click on the game in your Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Move install folder. Moving the apps/games this way is instant.
  • Also, on both – my personal PC and this VM I mentioned – am running Steam Client Beta v. 1751405894
  • Please let me know if you wanted some other info, or maybe for me to provide a video recording of this issue.
  • UPDATE #1: Also the Add new Steam library drive pop-up takes ages to show up. Same with just the process of removing or adding Steam Library folder – it also takes ages. In short, big screenshots folder makes using that Storage tab terrible, even sometimes the action of canceling the “Add a new Steam library folder” pop-up... (like why do I need to wait like 2 minutes for the pop-up to close; what is Steam doing in the background?)
UPDATE #2: Or even after you visited the Storage tab, and just want to open the game's properties window, or check Steam client updates, it also takes ages. The client becomes so laggy/unresponsive for a few minutes.
