8bitdo support seemingly added for extra buttons in steam input, but not actually
When using my 8bitdo Ultimate 2, on both the regular PC steam client and on SteamOS on the Steam Deck, there's an option in steam input for "extended buttons" and toggling that allows you to edit the L4 R4, L5 R5 buttons, but as soon as you exit that menu, the toggle seems to switch itself off and reset the buttons when toggle back on.

hold down the home button uintill the controller turns itself off, then hold down b button and turn on the controller, should work now
