Importing Steam Input Configs from other games
so steam lets you import configs over the search even from other games but it doesn't applies them.

what i did
- saved the wanted config in trackmania (2020 release) as shareable personal save
- started trackmania² stadium
- opened the steam overlay and went to the config search
- selected the exported config from trackmania
- when I say edit config it shows all the layers and custom inputs etc.
- end result
- can't edit
- after a game restart its gone
- saving it in trackmania² stadium creates a default config
- isn't working at all it only shows basicly a preview instead of being imported

is it a bug? is it even wanted to be able to import configs from other games? (would be pretty nice tbf)

same problem on my pc and steamdeck also in other games too.

Your headline implies you have problems with Importing, but it seems that unwanted overwriting of your Config is your problem? If so:

Right-click your config file and choose Properties. Set to Read Only if you want to protect the content. And to state the obvious, untick Read Only if you want to modify it.

EDIT:
It is not normal to be able to run configs from other games. If that works, it is pure luck or they are related somehow.

Cheers :)

Export the config as 'New Template'. Look for it under the Templates tab when you want to apply it to games. Restart Steam if it doesn't show under Templates.

works like it should or rather like I would expected from the config search, since it lets you search and choose configs from other games.
Its a workaround, but nice that it works at least that way. Hope valve will fix it.
Thanks Bru :)

You completely missed the point, sry.
I'm talking about the emulated controller layouts you can create with steam input, and it makes plenty of sense to be able to import them from other games.

For example the current controller I use needs 2% square deadzone in every racing game to be able to steer reliably to 100%, since the sticks are so perfektly circled you would have 1 or 2° where it hits 100% left and right. While normal Xbox and PS controllers have like 15° left and right where it consistently hits 100%.
just to a "simple" example, but thanks anyway for taking your time :)

Yes, I completely missed it being for your controller. Glad you found a workaround.

Cheers :)
