I've recently had this on and off issue where the steam client will pop up and tell me that "steam is shutting down" or that I have "new controller firmware available" or that I can take the hardware survey. This happens whether I'm in the beta or not and at times pop up above the game I'm playing. I've seen this happen on both Arch and Fedora.
