Steam closes itself when plugging an xbox controller
Issue:
Upon plugging the xbox controller through the USB port, the client just closes itself. There's no crash or anything. Even saw task manager that most of the processes had closed. There was a steam bugreporter poping up for a moment before all the steam related processes closed shortly after.

I have tried opening steam, launching a game (Elden Ring Nightreign in this case) and then connecting the controller. Like before, steam closes itself, and shortly after, the game crashes.

OS Win11

Steps:
-Open steam (any section)
-Plug in Xbox controller

Result:
Steam and its related processes automatically close.

I am having the same issue since this evening, using xbox 360 wireless controller that I have been using for years without issue, I was gaming with it about 5 hours ago without any problems and since I got back home for the last hour everytime I turn on the controller it immediately crashes steam, leave the controller off and no issues, turn on instantly crash again, idk wtf is happening but is this an issue on steam's side? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the controller drivers 3 times now, no change, still crashing when turned on. windows 11 as well

I seemed to have fixed the issue for me, seems to be tied to the steam beta participation, I opened steam settings -> interface -> steam beta participation and selected "no beta" , updated steam and it is working like normal again, hope that helps, I am playing Nightreign as well lol

Yeah, opting out of the beta did fix it. It seems like one of the most recent updates for the beta must have broken something.
