Desktop mode UI scaling broken on Linux Mint 22 with July 31st update
ISSUE
The beta client update on July 31, 2025 has broken desktop mode UI scaling on linux mint 22.

STEPS
Open settings
Select Accessibility
Move slider to see dysfunction.

RESULTS
The slider default position (with the down pointer) is the largest it gets, even if the slider is all the way to the right.

EXPECTED
The desktop mode UI scaling to function as it did before this update, it was fine before.

ADDITIONAL INFO
PC desktop scaling is at 200% for using a 55 inch 4K TV for living room couch gaming 3 meters back from TV.

Not sure if you're on the latest, but Mint 22.1 "Xia" is out now.
Run the updater tool and pray.

they've gone modal dialog with screen dimming in 22.1 ... avoiding that as long as I can, interferes with the onscreen keyboard.

For me, adding STEAM_FORCE_DESKTOPUI_SCALING=2 to /etc/environment has my desktop mode scaling correctly. I added this when the new steam client first released and scaling didn't work for me at all on linux to force it. The in-game overlay however doesn't scale anymore. It scales fine on the stable client for now. Whenever I exit BPM on the stable client, it caused desktop mode to be scaled at 4x instead of 2x. On the beta client, the scaling is fine after leaving BPM. I am using Manjaro BTW lol.
