That update was... Some time ago.

So SICK of opening this client full of PAID GAMES and being spammed into oblivion with "updates" (promotions for upcoming purchases) locked into the top half of the client. It's not acceptable. Why does Valve shove this garbage in our faces?

it's working for me, I'm currently on the stable client though ... maybe they've changed something in the beta.

I just checked the beta. With the default skin the what's new is there, with the custom skin the what's new is not there. It's still working for me.

Would you mind dropping your skin's file into a pastebin so I can copy paste? Perhaps there's something else in the file that's conflicting. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for late reply, I was at work.
I have updated webkit.css and copied default styles as recommended. I think all my WN ads are dismissed right now, so not sure if it's working yet - will update with an edit to this post.

Edit: nothing has appeared so far, several days later - I think it's safe to say this one works.
If it doesn't, there is an alternative method below.
If you're having issues, as you can see above, make sure to try making a new skin before moving on!

I can't seem to get the skin method to work in Beta. If I revert to Stable, the skin works fine.

There was a point where using the default skin broke What's New (couldn't interact with it, but it would show) and using a custom skin to remove What's New enabled interaction but did not hide it. I had to switch to Stable to fix the interaction bit, but I still can't hide it in Beta unless I manually kill it in while in -dev.

Let's try more methods to eliminate Valve's ad spam in their client for paid products.

That's really odd. The custom skin I use, once selected, is still blocking the What's New spam in Large Mode, in both stable and beta clients.

I can confirm it is definitely not blocked for me. I am using the copypasted .css from earlier, so the issue is caused by something else.
These developers really hate their customers, huh? 10+ years for a UI overhaul that's DOA and endless ad spam on the freaking homepage. Oh, and no support. Unreal.

Are you talking about the new Big Picture UI or the desktop Large Mode? The webkit.css only works with the Large Mode. I haven't heard of a way to block the What's New spam in the new BPM yet.

I am referring to Desktop/Large mode.

Does no-one still have a way to prevent this behaviour by the client?
It's utterly maddening to have this crap spammed at me every single time I open this client.
