In-Game FPS is now In-Game Overlay Performance Monitor
The In-Game FPS counter is now expanded to become the In-Game Overlay Performance monitor. It can display various more detailed information about frame rates, CPU performance, GPU performance, and more. Some data is only available on Windows at the time of this writing, and some information is only available on certain hardware. You will see an FPS counter like you always have at the lowest level of detail, but can adjust detail and appearance in Settings->In Game.

Learn more in our FAQ, and please provide feedback here.

Pretty useful & cool Performance Monitor!

First few things I noticed that would need improvements I think:

1. CPU temperature monitor, just like how GPU temperature monitor is shown already. This is an option that's almost essential.
2. Bigger size options. Right now the default is kinda small, especially when you want to have more information.
3. Another "performance detail level" that expands all the stats even more, and so that they go down vertically, on the left side, instead of being horizontal at the top, just like on the Steam Deck's performance overlay.
4. Bigger framarate/frametime graphs with the aforementioned highest 'performance detail level'.
5. Maybe faster update rate for FPS and such? I don't know if this degrades performance or something, but it would be useful to have this as an option when you're on the highest detail level.
6. CPU & GPU wattage/power usage .

All the current options are great if you want the most important information at subtle & small sizes, but I hope some of the options above make this like the most detailed performance overlay option on the Steam Deck, which I think is really good.

Is there a key to instantly hide and show the overlay if it's enabled? If not, could you add this? I requested it for the regular FPS counter before. It could be shown by default if it's enabled. The setting should be saved per game.

This is a good update, but I was hoping for game renaming and Steam Input improvements as the next major update.

Nice to see some of the SteamDeck features making their way into the Steam Linux Client.

As already mentioned, I too would like the option to increase the size of the display... perhaps a simple sizing slider could work; however, I can see a possible challenge here if the settings are "universal"...

Some games I let run native at 1440P whereas others are gamescope scaled 720P=>1440P.... the screen size is not always "static"

If something like a sizing option was introduced, could it be intelligent enough to consider the resolution and scale accordingly?

Looking forward to the inclusion of the CPU + GPU + RAM sections down the road!

Is this tech being partially rolled out in previous builds why me and others have had several hard crashes thanks to the Steam overlay?

CPU Performance all data shows 0, Ryzen 9800x3D win11 24H2 26100.4351
My client actually got bricked by this update. Reinstalling stable does not fix a 0x3000 crash.

Rebooting fixed it. Then again, I did go ahead & also reinstall the whole client in a panic.

i tried it and it looks amazing! i couldn't really get my cpu clocks with rtss/afterburner, and this just did it seamlessly.

- i'd love a hotkey though to enable/disable it on the fly
- i'd also like a way to make the text bigger as it looks fairly small even on my 1080p monitor

Having an option to disable graph at the last/maximum performance detail level would be nice, moving RAM details to next to the last option could work too

No, none of this functionality is in the older builds you are having a problem with, please keep discussion of your issue in your separate thread.

Just use Special K instead, that program caters to all your request and even more. No reason to use other stuff for single player games. :mhwgood::er_sweat:

can anyone send a screenshot of it? Does this overlay have TDP?

If you go into Steam Settings then the In Game tab there is a link that says "Learn about the performance monitor numbers here" in that section there is a small image of it.

Or try and click this direct link

I know this is too much to ask, but I wish we had advanced metrics that Intel's PresentMon provides, namely Frame time vs GPU busy, so that we could meaningfully see, if CPU or GPU is actual bottleneck, when neither is utilized up to 99%, yet performance is awful. Also it properly counts frames in between frames, unlike in the middle of frames, like 99% of monitors do, and I doubt Steam does it properly either.

Another thing that would be useful is CPU/GPU power usage and a universal FPS limiter.

I have heavy perf problems with new Performance Monitor. In Rocket League showing only FPS i can hit +200fps, activating any other detail it drops to 100-140fps. Same with CS2 but RL being a lighter game was very noticiable that I had a problem.

Spec: Intel i3 1010F, AMD RX6600

Also it doesn't display any info about my CPU, just 0% usage.
