EGPU support
Hello Valve team,

Thank you for adding eGPU support to SteamOS 3.7 — it's great to see that devices like the ASUS ROG X and Lenovo Legion Go S are now recognised, including support for the ASMedia ASM246x USB4 controller.

I’m currently using a dock with an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT eGPU, and while the controller from the eGPU is recognised but not functional, full functionality requires updated system components. Specifically, I’d like to request updates to the Mesa drivers, Linux kernel, and Linux firmware packages to ensure proper support for newer AMD Radeon 7000 and 9000 series GPUs. This would allow the 9070 XT to be supported and I know a lot of others would jump back from Bazzite to SteamOS.

With these updates, modern AMD eGPUs would be fully compatible, enabling users to test and play with next-gen graphics hardware on SteamOS.

Thanks again for your continued support and development.

re an update. So its all supported however due to the mesa and linux version currently the 7000 and 9000 series cards are not supported.

Do you think it would recognise 6000 series?

yes, i am very interested in this question. is there full support for amd egpu in linux?
So yes there is egpu support in linux. You go into thunderbolt however your device needs to support it as well. So in this case I am using the lenovo legion go s which supports egpu. I think 6000 series is supported btw.
Please add the 7000 series I have a 7800M and a 7600 MXT. Honestly I'd never go back to Windows if it the EGPU support is good.

yeah 7000 and 9000 support need adding quite honestly most people will be using amd for gaming I see nvidea dropping off support and heading to their cash cow being AI.

A lot of people would love to have their steam device connected to a tv so we can game on the go and on the big screen. Quite honestly lenovo legion go s have showed its possible within thunderbolt settings on desktop mode for older graphics cards to be used on the device. I just am holding out on steamOS 3.8 to support egpus.

We just need valve/steamOS to drop some in game support in gaming mode for it to be perfected. But also the big thing would be getting the 9070xt and even some nice 7000 series cards playable on steamOS.

Valve is working to make it robust for desktop release which I see coming soon.
