Feedback/Suggestions, & General Statement
As a continuation from my previous post. Since it's length limited. First I want to say, if a post is too long. It should say that. Not something akin to error posting: 2.

Feedback & Suggestions:
Wish we could manually move the markers. Sometimes I place one name it, but would prefer it was moved at little bit.

Ability to group clips.

Ability to give tags.

Ability to merge clips.

Ability to search markers.

A menu showing un-named markers.

Option to not re-record the past so minutes. If I press save last 20 minutes, and then do it again 5 minutes later, I'd rather it just save the 5 minutes. Or an option to merge/connect them.

Base library of marker icons.

Disable autoplay after making a clip. It's quiet jarring creating a clip and you rapidly need to get back into the game and then it starts playing in the background.

Folders

An option to isolate all system audio and only listen to the timeline that you're clipping from. That way it's easier to make a clip without hearing both the recorded audio, and the current game audio plus any chatting.

A button on the edge of the timeline that shifts the bar all the way to the right. Sometimes I want to clip something, but don't want to record the last 20 minutes. So I go to do it manually. But it's just a tad annoying having to slam the bar to the right.

Ability to name a clip.

Ability to always record even when a game is not running, and maybe an option to have it use a smaller buffer size. I want this so if steam doesn't record when I launch a game to quickly after closing a different one, or doesn't recognize a modded game I at least still have some recording. And it's sometimes nice having a desktop recorded, I've used shadowplay for debugging programs before cause something happened really fast.

I do like there's an indicator that there's multiple clips on the same part of a timeline. I'd be nice if that indicator existed in clips as well to show hey this timeframe is already recorded. That way when trimming a long clip to several smaller ones, I can confidently know each moment has been saved in a individual clip and am safe to delete the twenty minute one.

Some form of indicator that steam record is running. If you make an API for it. That'd be amazing cause then I bet I could have a light on my keyboard indicate it. Cause I ain't good at remembering to check if it's recording.

Better sorting and filters. Sort by specific date, length.

For me at least I would like a indicator that a clip hasn't been trimmed. So every clip made by a twenty minute button can easily be identified to trim.

Make an option so when you make a marker it saves X minutes before and records another X minutes after. And like one of the above, if it's pressed again within X it just continues instead of creating new.

A sidebar showing markers. That way for a large timeline I can look at the side bar to see the markers for easier skipping around.

The choice so the timeline doesn't acknowledge time before the recorded. If you play for a bit the bar can get really small. And it seems kinda pointless to see that section of nothing recorded here.

I would love audio channel recording. That way several of my clips with my voice louder than a supernovae could be muted. And I could mute discord as well to isolate the game clip.

Also right now the audio indicator that you recorded something is also recorded. I wouldn't have an issue it if it also wasn't really loud in the recording only. So option to turn it down, or omit from recording.

There should be a better indicator that using h264 doesn't support 1440p. I was very confused at first. I didn't exactly prefer h265 at first since I can only watch it via VLC which is just a bit more clumsy than I'd prefer. But seeing as I'm just using the clip viewer itself I'm good for now.

I think the chevron keys (<>) should be bound to nudge back/forward. I would like the option to have nudge be per frame, not several as it is.

I'd like an option to have arrow keys bound to the 10 second jumps, than changing clips.

Manually set bitrate. I prefer 35mbps it's what I've found to be my sweet spot between high quality and low size.

When making a clip from a timeline not via shift+tab you'll get moved to the clip and going back doesn't bring you to the previous spot in the timeline. So it's a bit annoying when trying to make multiple clips from a timeline.

Ability to import videos. Though if you add the ability to title and tag clips, I’ll make a script that lets me import videos myself. So please focus on title & tags before import videos. Well, and the fact the performance seems to get worse the more clips you have saved.
General Statement:
Steam Game Record in its infancy seems somehow dramatically better than the mature options already out their. It's not perfect by any means, it's for sure still in it's infancy. But it really is surprisingly good. I've used shadowplay the longest and was hating it more and more everyday I continued to use it. It would frequently turn off without notification. And if there was a notification it wouldn't say why it was turned off. You just had to guess why it would turn off. And recently it's far worse than ever. In all honesty it's probably better to install a very old geforce experience instance and use that than the Nvidia App. Cause every time I launched a game with shadowplay active the first 40ish% would always be corrupted. And for a bit it recorded in HDR so everything was excessively RED. And right before I switched to steam record, it would never stay on. I would always have to turn it back on.

I absolutely love the design of steam game record. Being able to have a buffer of X minutes ready to go, instead of just a button to save the last X minutes. Which I frequently forget to do. There are many times a moment happens and it's not till three matches later I remember it and think to record it, to then realize it was 30 minutes ago. Now I actually can go grab it when I forget. It's also really nice being able to quickly trim these too. Before I would just build up a massive folder of clips needing to be trimmed, then pull up lossless cut and slowly trim them down. Which was beyond tedious especially when I had to spend time finding out why a clip existed. Twenty minutes is a long time. It could've been something at the start, or at the very end, or right in the middle, or nowhere cause I tried to record something but was late.

One my favorite things is that it's not just a clip recorder, it's also a clip manager in way. To have all those clips there, ready to be trimmed with ease again if needed. Or sort by a game. And the MARKERS, I love the markers. It's so nice being able to just jump to a spot in a clip with a note as to what's going on. The export feature is a massive blessing. Before in order to send a clip on discord with a shadowplay clip. I would have to trim it very short, lower the resolution, I didn't think to ever lower the bitrate. And it's really nice I can export a copy through a far simpler UI with more control over how to export. The exported size estimation is accurate most of the time, but when it's wrong it's usually really wrong. And that only happens in really chaotic moments when the pixels are changing alot.

I don’t tend to write bug reports, and suggestions. I’ve only ever done it once for bg3. I really hope this thing continues to get support. Cause it’s really nice having good and funny memories saved, and this is easily the best way to save them for now for me.

However, one of the bugs I had earlier that was easily fixed by a guide. Made me a bit depressed. The guide is from Nov 2024. So I'm a bit fearful of what the development of Game Record is going to look like. I've experienced a lot of crashes, and was largely fine with them though since I thought game record was still in beta. I'm a bit less fine knowing there's a bug that someone made a guide on how to fix it half a year ago, and the bugs still here. And that there's this many crashes, and now that I think about the fact that there's post of people's mic being as loud as mine from Nov of last year as well. And posts asking for multi-channel audio before then. I'm a bit fearful, it's very reminiscent of Shadowplay never fixing year old bugs. I just hope game record at least doesn't get worse, I can manage right now.

With how many crashes there are, I'd rather it be more detached from steam. That way when it crashes it doesn't take steam & the game with it.

Okay this has been written throughout a week or two of use. And kept getting delayed cause I wanted to add X or just forgot to post. So imma post it now. There might be a sentence that just cuts off somewhere. I don’t have the time to attempt another proof read for the twentieth time just to get distracted.
