Hull Breach 29 Apr, 2019 @ 11:45am
I really liked the idea, so I spent the last few hours designing a greenhouse xD

Guys, just a note I did say no DLC in the forum for this contest. However, since you are the only two entries and it seems you both use it, it won't matter unless we have more entries.

btw, thanks for entering

Just FYI I've been rather busy with school and life recently. As a result I may be late again with the results. Also since my usual judges didn't seem available, I'll be judging this one completely myself.

Winners!
1. MACH Velocity
2. Copycat80
3. Tomas_SVK

Really good work here. Was blown away by some of these.

It should be of note that the top two entries are also extremely close. If it was only my own judging results, it would be a tie. I still have a hard time deciding between the two even with external feedback.

As for feedback from myself,

MACH I don't have much else to say besides this is top notch work (also that it murdered my computer but that seems true for all of the winners). The base has a nice flow to it

Copycat80, my notes say "dude, nice atmosphere", "HOLY CRAP!", "this like a Disney dark ride or something!", "RIP lemon respawn". You did an amazing job making the entire thing airtight, the train facade was extremely well executed, I loved all the little hidden areas and rooms, and there was an amazing attention to detail for the entire thing. You're an artist and I can't wait to see what you do next.

Tomas_SVK, I realize what you have was unfinished due to time constraints. What is there, however is definitely well done. The housing area was particularly interesting. If you had more time to work on this, fill in the rooms, and work on the lighting, this would have been a much closer race.

More comments from the judges will be here soon, I just need to format them. Again, great work everyone.

Here's some feedback from MACH Velocity (normally entrants wouldn't be allowed to judge but considering the experimental nature of this one and the need for judges, I made an exception. There were no prizes other than feedback for this contest and MACH gave some very good feedback).

(I hope I don't butcher the formatting)

MACH Velocity:

Here are my reviews of the four other bases. I've have done my best to not be biased

Mars Greenhouse by Hulltech
What went well:
• Fantastic detailing on the tractor and inside of the tractor hangar, particularly like the spinning rotor on the front of the tractor and the use of conveyors as exhaust pipes
• Captures very well the feeling of a lone farm miles from civilization
• Nice detail with the lamps over the plants to give the impression of providing artificial light to help them grow
• Good use of voxel tool to create Earth like soil within the greenhouse
• Like the use of tanks spread around to add more detail
Even better if:
• Would be nice to have the greenhouse connected to the crew quarters so you didn’t have to go outside in a spacesuit to go between them
• The detailing on the tractor and hangar was very good, it would have been nice to see the same level of detailing in the crew quarters and greenhouse
Aesthetic score = 4/10
Features score = 5/10

Mars Base - Planetary Agricultural Outpost by alexander_pelletier
What went well:
• Really like the way that little cubicles have been provided for each player with a bed and locker but then arranged in a way to give them all privacy, very clever
• Very clear sign posting makes getting around very easy
• Nice walkways between the different modules
• Fun vehicles to drive around in makes the base feel more alive, clever little rover door on the back
• Good use of LCD’s to create a maps of the base
• Like the detailing of the interior, with good use of blocks to break up flat surfaces
• I like the big windows giving panaramas of the Martian surface outside
Even better if:
• Interior of the rovers could have more detailing like the interior of the base
• More colouring of the base to break up the white walls
• Better if the exterior walls were as nicely detailed as the interior
Aesthetic score = 6/10
Features score = 6/10

Catherson; the underground plantation by Copycat80
What went well:
• Absolutely incredible underground city. The level of detail is absolutely astonishing!
• The building of modules and walkways into the voxels to create an intricate cave system is incredibly well done
• The detail that has gone into making it feel like a proper little city is amazing, from a supermarket with stacked shelves and cashier’s desk. To a nuclear reactor with a projector used to give the appearance of water
• Lots of mods used really well, in particularly I like the lighting used on the modules and how they loom out of the darkness of the cave
• I also like the contrast achieved between the living quarters with sleek elegant lines and the more functional areas with blocky modular construction and nice little details like pipes and cameras
• One of my favourite space engineer worlds!
Even better if:
• It is quite confusing to find your way around
• It seems like the hangars to the exterior are unfinished?
Aesthetic score = 9/10
Features score = 9/10

Titan Agricultural outpost by Tomas_SVK
What went well:
• Another absolutely amazing build
• Love the design of the interconnecting modules, really looks like a prefabricated structure that could have been developed by NASA
• Excellent use of voxel tools and plant models to create unique environments in each greenhouse
• Details like the cargo ship give the whole base an alive and operational feel
• Really good build and I enjoyed exploring it
Even better if:
• More signage to help get around would be helpful
• There seem to be a lot of interior rooms which are empty
Aesthetic score = 8/10
Features score = 7/10
