Turret Limits On Ships
Ok we need to establish a limit on turret numbers vs ship size. I think a small CV should not have more turrets than larger ships. I'm looking for suggestions on ways to keep the designs clean looking and not like wart covered turds. I personally think a two to three block spacing on one axis and no more than three rows of staggered turrets on any other axis. Any Ideas?

I think thier need to be a seperate limit for pirates we have tons of obsticles to wade through in order to attack.

ill take todays example for instance first off we had to dismantle base defenses then we had to defend against thier faction member comming to defend said base then we had to prevent offline protection because as soon as he lost the fight he ran to the wolves for help then promply logged off in an attempt to force offlin protection. all of this was combat none of this was lotting so when it came time to loot the wolves were on the way no time to loot whatsoever.

second once we attack in such a manner we become public enemy no one so the entire server is on its way to attack us and at this point we havent even started looting yet but people are on the way.

third it takes time to loot and sort through bases to take what we need expecially if they have interior turrets thats longer

fourth we have 4 members with average activity of 2.5 players online on our general primtime when everyone else has more.

as pirates we need the ability to hit fast and hard and get in to loot and get out before the entire might of the server can converge on us with thier 20k block ships

Thier is so much protection for non pirates you have offline protection gentlmen agreement offline protection people dont want us to attack auto miners you have the wolves helping everyone home world protection plus the fact were usually out numbering us and the fact we only have sathium which is nearly worthless as you can get it from pois when you have factions with iron and promethium which is the lifeblood of the server and other factions with gold which is the currency life blood of the server

plus the fact nobody wants to trade with me because im some sort of douchebag its my/our life blood to hit hard fast raid and breakout before we are overwhemed nerfing our offensive abilitys would be huge in detering us to be able to achieve our raid because its not just combat we also have to spend an hour or so inside the base dismantling interior defenses and looting all the while the entire server is bearing down on us.

now if you want to institute a turret limit thats fine ill agree to it just remember our life blood is fast hard and vanish so if you nerf our special abilitys too much we wont be effective.

Not arguing with you on having to do a job. Sure you need things to get the job done. I'm just going after clean looking ships that have a balanced play. All the rest is up to a rule maker to decided on your raiding parameters.

So I see a LOT of ways this can be done and a lot of disagreement on it so my opinion may be swayed.. But currently this is where I stand.
- I think that turret limits should scale with the size of the ship.
- I see it as limiting each type of turret per amount of blocks or class
or limiting total turret amount per amount of blocks or class

-You could also have a specific limit for each faction
- If done that way I see this being appropriate: on a scale of most to least turrets: Wolves --> Pirates --> Nomads --> Freelancers

wolves are police the best ratio would be pirates>nomads>wolves>freelances

the pirates are an offensive faction focused on firepower and speed to complete objectives before the police arrive the police are a defensive faction to hold the line and be nearly unkillable if you give them more guns on top of thier already 25,000 block ships they wont be killable and will force us to build even larger ships so instead of being fast and hard hitting pirates we become a second paramility organisation with our own juggernaughts and seeing how they already have iron and gold and we have worthless sathium thats stupid and makes us worthless we already have to fight the entire server for resources and to raid which is our job what do the wolves have to do build huge juggernaughts and wait for us to start raiding

our very first engagement with them we went 3v1 and didnt even win because thier ship was 20k plus juggernaught and from what im told they had the grendal a ship even bigger than that on its way as well so how in the sam fuck are we supposed to fight the police when we have smaller ships and less firepower

i get the concept when police come we should run but if police are stupid and arent organised we should be able to 3v1 one police ship with proper tactics and win and retreat when they organise an effective squad running a 20k block ship in with no backup against our full might was just dumb and tbh we had supieror tactics that particular engagement by how well we coordinated and we still couldnt get the job done because of how heavy that ship is 3v1 so ur telling me less guns us more guns them some how makes it more balanced when we already couldnt take down a single ship 3v1 before his reinforcments showed up we have no tackle mechanic in this game and we still couldnt complete the job if you nerf us and buff the police it will make logging in as pirates a joke again because a single wolf can own our entire faction just by being on the field let alone if the wolves actully mount an effective defense with friendly ships closer rather than russing head first in a bloodlust without support

I agree there should be a 3 blocks in between limit but there also still needs to be a hard limit on the amount of turrets as the game intended. Otherwise it just becomes a building race of who can mine the most and build the biggest and who can spend all day grinding...

As to what Believe is saying the military is always stronger than pirates as it is in real life, but as in real life it doesn't stop the pirates. If there is limits I wouldn't have a problem of allowing a slight modification of pirates adding a few more guns but allowing endless corn rows of guns is garbage.

No limits ends up ruining gameplay. I would rater see slightly smaller ships with less guns and more PVP because it wouldn't be such a loss.

All I'm seeing now is a cold war arms race with an occasional skirmish.

That's just it dachizzels stopped that big bad wolf ship on his own within a few seconds and he has one of the cleanest looking ships on the server. it has guns and gets the job done. A battle should last more than 5 seconds. It should take time to disable a ship, more guns does not mean crap to a well built ship. Like wolf said this is a youtubers server and we want to show off good looking ships not crap. Even the people who are not youtubers still want good looking ships. what is wrong with that? Believe do you honestly believe that pirates should be able to outdue a military faction? That would be like saying ISIS has more weapons than th U.S. armed forces. No they run vehicles fitting of that class. I'm not saying you have to have a beat up toyota in the desert but you can build a nicely gunned ship that has a pirates style and get the job done. Also why can't the pirates build a large ship to have as their flag ship just for the occasion of when the wolves bring out a big ship? Most pirates stories,movies what ever lore you look into pirates have always had fast raiding ships and a large one to bring out when the need arises. The point is that no one wants to be out gunned but there has to be some order to it or it just becomes a pissing contest.

I think a 3 to 5 space between in all directions would limit how many turrets can be placed on ships... larger ships mean more turrets, smaller ships less

and what would be the enforcing entity? if you said only 15 per 1000 blocks can you count them fast enough? if they cheated who would verify? if inspected first and approved who stops them from modding and replacing? i have no problems with any of these issues but they need to be understood as there may be many that would be driven to break them even for sucha a short time as revenge. can you be a bigger person and take it on the chin if your stuff gets blown up? or is now the time to cry. on a personal note. i did agree to lessen the turrets on my ship without a rule change to be in better spirit with the game expectation. i think it is alarming that we are haveing a SERIOUS discussion about it AFTER someone loses a ship. will we revisit this if another takes a loss? perhap limit number of ships engaging a target cause it is unfair? when will the crying game end? I will reset my Raid ship with new turrets and a lower number by 30 percent. i trust that this will be more acceptable to the aesthetic appeal you are striving for. my lines are clean and does not look like warts on a ship as opposed to other ships i have seen. i.e. the gunship. admittedly some even in my faction have turrets that overpower the landscape of the ship detracting from the visual appeal.
LETS TRY THIS: rather than one person approval or hard number limits lets have a 3 person panel (most active, one from each faction that way we have an alternate during absences) make the majority decision. present blueprints to ADMIN. spawn it in. all 3 inspect as available when all have looked they can determine if it passes or need to be reduced. if this is about LOOKS and not a number comparison it will work out fine. i can make any ship look crappy or sleek with 50 turrets. its about placement. want more turrets? make it work cleanly. this is my observation and not a fact nor meant to convey a rule change or anything. please look it over and decide.

this game does need more detailed ship classes with both pros and cons. In most games smaller ships are faster than behemoths and better manoverability as well.

So as a little extra information. From my understanding making a turret limit isnt because other peoples' ships are better than others, its because combat doesn't last long enough the way things are right now.

I agree with you Kaedan on people getting upset and tossing more on just to get revenge. The only suggestion i could make would be to screen shot it if your close enough. Otherwise its a he said she said deal that goes nowhere other than a person has a unconfirmed rep of doing so. Plus we do have admins that can pop in and out of anywhere they want and can check ships and make them dissapear if there is a violation. As far as numbers go I feel that larger ships should and could hold more than a small ship but it does mainly fall back to looks. Like I said dachizzels ship got the job done long before any one else got a chance to jump in (from what I was told). Who lost a ship? As far as I know the only ship vs ship conflict resulted in no one losing a whole ship just some damage. Now if your reffering to the Planet side conflict I do not have much info on that so I can't comment on that. Nor does the start of this discusion have anything to do with a ship loss, but because there was so many opinions being stated on teamspeak after the incident that I felt we should address it as a group. Now number of ships vs ships in an engagement I think wolf has verbally stated that there is some sort of ruling on that. If I am wrong please correct me as there was a lot of people talking that day. I like the Idea of a panel of approval but why not just use Wallenstein, He is the MasterShipwright on the server if I am not mistaken?

Dachizzels that might not be a correct statement, you got in the kill shot right off the bat not due to your ships having more guns or a better design but you shot in the correct spot to shut him down instantly,(props to you on the kill) I personally would like to see and have a longer combat. From strictly a youtubers stand point a 5 second video doesnt do me much good. a 5 -10 minute fight I can do something with. I can show off ships, game mechanics, and possibly draw people into the server which is what we need to amp up the game play. Who would want to come play if they see 5 second battles from overgunned ships? Honestly would that make you want to play if that is all you saw?

So far out of everyones ships I have seen only one ship that fits the overgunned description. Kaedan I have never seen your ship so I have no clue on your turrets or if it looks clean or not. I have only heard what people have said, the fact that your willing to drop the number down shows your a team player and are a reasonable person. After I started this discussion I actually went and looked at my own ship and realized i was actually not in full compliance with my own idea and adjusted my ship. Without some sort of rules there will always be chaos.

MAOR blocks less turrets!!! 500 million bazzillion blocks per one turret onrley!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only tiger tanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! no other type go big or get nerfed and ruled down
