Steam will stop running on WindowsXP
Hi guys, I hope there will be some interest in this topic... I play a game that is not available on Linux, namely Age of Empires 2 HD, but recently I started seeing the above message on my Steam client - Steam will stop running on Windows XP in 157 days. In Wine config of my bottle I have changed the Windows XP into Windows 7 and Windows 10, but the message still appears as if the Steam client is still seeing this as Windows XP installation. I tried making a new Windows 7 bottle and installing Steam into it, but the situation is still the same. Furthermore, after installation and updating the Steam client still doesn't show the new chat features that are already available even on the native Linux client. I am afraid that Steam is not perceiving the Crossover bottles as newer Windows instllations and is NOT updating to the very last version and that it will STOP working in roughly half a year... Is there anything that we can do to avoid this scenario - since hell will first freeze over than MS will release my game on Linux...

There is a workaround mentioned in Crossover steam forum and it works...But I now also downloaded steam client that can play linux games and that works too. Only my elo is bugged now - permanently stuck on 1600 - and even if i go back to crossover steam its still bugged :/ but the game works like in crossover other than that and u can use native linux steam client that works better than the one on crossover.

Yeah...I was able to get it to work-sorta. I installed the crosstie on 17.1 into a 64-bit bottle then went and removed the keys they told it "hey this is xp"(would've been better if it was possible to just change that to 7). But yeah good luck buying any new games, or in my case just messing around on the store like I tend to do. It does however work to just install games. You just won't be running any modern games(these just don't work for me like planet coaster, endless legend, or anything I have from within the past 5-6 years of gaming). But things like RCT? Those work like a champ

Edit: note it has to be a 64-bit win 7 from what I can tell. I haven't tried doing a bottle with anything newer so good luck. If I had a working knowledge of windows and why you need what you need to get things working we'd be in business :-\
