Can't join teams

My 'change team' keys aren't working, and I'm stuck in spectate upon joining before eventually being kicked. Is this a bug, or is there a certain, nonstandard, way of joining teams?

Being stuck in spectator is a bug that can occur on any server (apart from matchmaking servers)
And to solve it open console and type "autoteam" or just reconnect

Never had it happen, before, but now I know the console trick. Reconnecting would be easier if it didn't take 20 minutes to download everything.

You dont have to download the stuff more than once

You dont have to download the stuff more than once

When did that change? One of the reasons I only ever stuck to Valve servers; because custom servers always made me redownload content.
