Thanks, I knew I saw it somewhere, but could not remember which file I had seen it!

I noticed when I create some skills, they list out like:

Buff Self:
+X Dodge
+Y ACC
+Z % CRT

Where as built in classes do things much simpler, for example:
Highwayman "Tracking Shot":
Self:
+X DMG / +Y ACC / +Z % CRT

Man-At-Arms "Retribution"
Self:
-X% DMG when Riposte / Activates Riposte / Mark Target


Maybe the difference is that mine are actual buffs and not an attack on an enemy target? Would be nice if we could force the / mode on tool tips. Is it possible some how?

I think I might toy with that actually, possibly combined with situational effects. So not truly random, but widly varying from a single attack.

Does anyone know how things like peformer_group and buff_ids would combine with "in_rank"?

I wondering about something like:


Would that simply do a different (de)buff on everyone?
Or would in_rank refer to the caster -- and do the same (de)buff to all based on the character's rank in the party?

My assumption is the former of the two, but I have not tested it yet.
Any ideas on how to accomplish the latter option? I think that would make for a really interesting skill in a class that has a couple movement skills.

Is it possible to create a list of effects, and then have 1 of those effects randomly applied to each group member?

I have tried using .chance x% with target="performer_group"; that just does 1 RNG to apply to the whole group. Not 1 RNG per group member.

I also tried to use .queue false, to see if maybe it could be used like an a programming "break" statement. Have effect 1 with 33% chance, effect 2 with 50% chance, effect 3 with 75%, effect 4 with 100%. Then RNG for effect 1 --> fail; Try RNG effect 2 --> Success!; Skip RNG for effects 3 and 4. Sadly, that did not work like that at all. I was still getting all the effects possibly triggering at once (granted, very rarely).

My initial though was to randomly buff / debuff the whole battle field, but I don't think it is possible to do it. At least not so much with a random per hero/monster buff/debuff.

So you made an attack for the monster itself, that targets its party with @1234, and used the above effect to make them attack friendly units?

Also, does that type of damage get affected by +DMG% and PROT stats? Could be an interesting alternative to bleed / blight for a DoT effect. Like a "Dancing Sword" or something, where you animate a weapon that does normal damage rather than armor ingoring DoT.

Is it possible to add a new condition type?

I mean there is bleed, blight, and stun, but I would really like to have burning and confused as well. Especially confused, as it would give me a way to let enemies act erratically like a hero with an affliction. (Self attacking, ally attacking, randomly moving, etc.)

A skill that affects all combatants on both teams (would I do that by activating two different effects with one ability?)

The skill must target an enemy (any enemy and/or all enemies) and have two effects.
One effect, on group members, would have .target "performer_group"
The other, hitting enemies, would have .target "target_group" (hence the must target an enemy)

Note: you will run out of tool tip space fairly quickly.

As a side note:
The Siren, can steal control of a player hero. If I recall correctly, the hero jumps to the enemy side and is AI controlled for a few rounds -- fairly close to what you describe.

I did try to add this to a custom class and got nothing in the skill description, I did not test it to see if it did anything though.

I am guessing, even if this did work -- you would need a way to increase party size limit temporarily to 5. Or, you would need to bring less than 3 heroes.

Maybe a game dev can explain how .control functions for us, and if it is at all possible to make it work as a player control spell.

I had the same problem when I first started. I ended up needing to create a "project.xml" file in the directory.

For example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\DarkestDungeon\mods\<Mod Name>\project.xml

In my case, I copied one from the Apothecary hero, and modified it to suite my needs. I don't know exactly what all the fields do, but having the below skeleton worked for me. You will have to edit the ModDataPath, Title, Tags, etc.


I hope this helps anyone else having this issue.

Here is the effect string from the Leper sklill Solemnity.

effect: .name "Leper Resist Buff 1" .target "performer" .chance 100% .buff_ids leper_blight_resist leper_bleed_resist leper_debuff_resist leper_move_resist .on_hit true .queue true

That gives +25% resist Bleed, Blight, Debuff, and Move. Sadly, I could not find anywhere in the effects where it actually spells out the 25% value -- or how to set a specific value. You could use this to at least get 25% though.

Update:
You can also call buffs in "DarkestDungeon\shared\buffs\base.buffs.json" file by using the ID's. Just search the file for MOVE (all caps) and you will find the ID names.
