Demos are AWESOME
OK if you have screenshots, that's good. If you have a video, even better. If your game has a good description you're moving up in the world. But if you have a playable demo that can make a HUGE difference.

So please, if you have a demo, that should be the FIRST THING listed in your game description. Too often I'll see a demo listed at the very bottom like it's an afterthought that you almost forgot. If you want people to actually experience your game and you're confident that it's a good experience, that should be the very first thing they encounter. (-user feedback!!!)

You really need a game play video for proper consideration
The video doesn't even have to be all that polished. Some of the best videos I've seen is the author explaining the game while playing it. Can't get a true feel for the game from just screen shots alone. (by Game Coding Ninja) ... yeah Ill sort all this later and make it look cool... =)

No problem in not being one yet I am thinking about leaving the group open to everyone but only letting Developers moderate, and the point of the thing is to get people to DIY or participate in any way they can in the future of making games better!

First - I am a single developer here at the moment... take a look at my game, not much to the bare eye now you think?... it wil grow! And so will we! And I'd love to be working on the game now, especially with all that fresh feedback.... but

What we need to do right now! Is to go out and catch all the young and established promising agile developers that are willing to participate and grow/evolve with this!

This isn't the same vote up/down game we have on all other sites, this is clever and if we all are open for this there is no room for cheaters because we are all real and not playing something that we are not! And then WE get the fanbase we deserve and the moneymakers can do their thing some other place...

We have been set equal with all the big publishers now! That is a quick test I think because the press isn't talking about it, so I think Valve must be getting a lot of pressure right now. I think they want to see this happen as bad as I do... but who knows when they are forced to open back doors for tripple A games again so they don't loose them....

This is all just my opinion at this point, correct me anytime!

Make a AWESOME thumbnail and be careful not to make it hurt the eye. The purpose of the Thumbnail is to lure the correct Audience for your game. So it should reflect what people have to expect from your game. As with all your presentation footage, make sure it is tailored for your audience. For example making a dark thumbnail for a otherwise bright game is missleading, just to stat the obvious.

and the good thing for folk like us is that we get this chance to see that before the "big ones" figure out a way to abuse the system ;)

The Voting Could (Im just guessing) be to get other big ones with lots of followers to "Come here vote!" (And this system looks flawed but what it is doing is catching those invites and spreading them over us! "Why is my game not on the list? My freinds cant find my game anymore?" - Because they voted for yours! and those other flashy images are games too - look !

Or I am being over optimistic but that's what I see here...

I think you have a good chance here to catch off and build a community around your games, right there where they are being sold... think about it ... youll get the votes you need and projects are scaleable, why should valve compare indie games like ours to titles with established fanbases with a fixed number for all... that would be quite narrow imo...

Public relations: I'm new to that too. To be honest... I think its fair to remove bashing comments and off topic name dropping or even very unconstructive(!) critisism
removing fair critique on the other hand will only harm you on the long run, because thats how we all learn, and proving that you can grow is a good public sign. and Hi =)
