One small thing...
I don't know if anyone really noticed it but in the original FF VI the elemental based attacks were like;

Fire 1
Fire II
Fire III
and so on. In later versions of Final Fantasy games (FF VIII I think it was) they started this Fireaga stuff and I never have liked it. It's probably Japanese for Fire III or something but it's just confusing to an old time American like me..heh. I personally would like a mod to bring back the Fire I, Fire II and so on.

Does anyone else feel this way too? I also notice some of the dialog has been changed. Not sure why, maybe so it doesn't offend some fictional characters out there or some people that relate to them. Way too much PC going on here.

For some of the games the dialog was changed (and all the other text re-localized) because they were working with extreme cartridge limitations with the original localizations. One third or more of some games' scripts had to be cut out because English (and many other phonetic alphabets) take up way more space than Japanese.

In FFV's case, the PS1 localization was just awful even though they didn't have a space issue. My favorite example when it comes to really terrible mistakes with FFV:
Wyvern localized as Y-Burn by mistake.

Someone made a fun list here for FFV:

I just find it odd that people are all worried about the original sprites and graphics in this game, but don't seem to care about the dialog and names at all. Maybe they just don't read it anymore.

It's not that they don't care, it's that the re-translations tend to be both more accurate and more in depth than the originals.

I guess you never read the original versions either because that is not true at all.
I had the original SNES cartrige (it was called Final Fantasy III when it came out back then) I got it when the game was new. It was quite different from all of these later versions. The language has been softened up since then in places.

That's funny, considering Nintendo wanted loads of text censored in the SNES version, such as references to death, killing, religion (Holy changed to Pearl, Fallen Angel changed to Fallen One etc), sexual references, and swearing.
