MOD - Vibrant Reshade preset with optional border fix
Description

Omnipotus, known for his amazing Sweetfx (Reshade) work created this awesome FF6 preset. We also collaborated and created a border fix to stretch the screen, removing the nasty bars on the side. Surprisingly it has great results even when stretched. Of course, this is subjective, which is why I have uploaded two versions of the preset.

Be sure to thank Omnipotus directly. You can also find more of his work at the home of Sweetfx, sfx.thelazy.net, by using the following link: Omnipotus' SweetFX work[sfx.thelazy.net].

How to Use

  • Extract the zip contents into your FF6 main directory (i.e. [..]\Steam\SteamApps\common\Final Fantasy 6)
  • Start the game!
  • F11 toggles the preset on/off
  • F10 toggles the border fix on/off (ONLY with "border fix" preset)

Author's Notes
The fix works in both fullscreen (using your native desktop resolution), or in windowed mode. However, currently the border fix only works with the following resolutions:
  • 1920x1080
  • 1280x720
If you play in another resolution, please comment below with your requested resolution. I can try and make a fix shortly after. Enjoy!

My game is super dark and after playing around with the settings I find I have to disable SMAA for it not to be dark, I have an R9 270X.

Can you update this? It just stopped working for me, I can't get the borders to go away anymore. They reappear after about 30 seconds and pressing F10 does nothing. The message "Loading effects..." remains on the screen.

Is this easily applyable to Final Fantasy IX?
Saftle 18 May, 2016 @ 9:01am
I actually created a really nice one for FF IX, that I should probably release, but sadly sfx files should no longer be distributed, so I have to think of an easy way to provide the preset itself and a tutorial on how to apply it to the reshade framework.

This preset "could" work, but the borders might be slightly bigger or smaller. It doesn't hurt to give it a shot.

As in apply this border fix to FFix in the same way? I didn't realise it'd be thay simple!

I do think the borders wouldn't be quote right though, FFix is standard 4:3 whereas I think FFVI is 5:4?

Is it quite simple to do border fixes? I'd like to apply custom fixes to FF3-6 and 9 as they're all a little off in different ways.

Well, there's two different methods that I did for FFIX. One method is to stretch it, like the rest of the games, or another is to replace the grey bars with black ones. I personally play with the black bars on FFIX since the game isn't sprite based and since the bars are quite large.

But, you could technically use the shader for any game, and if you want to modify the border amount just modify the **Magnify** values in the BasicFX.cfg file within the Reshade folder.

You can alter the values on the fly, without restarting the game.

How does it look if you modify the border size? Does it show more of the screen, or does it look stretched?

Right, I'm gonna teach myself how to do this and create my first mod!

Shame, this doesn't work for me.

Yeh I couldn't get it to work either. I press F11 and nothing happens.

i'm having trouble getting this to work. could you help? when i extract the zipped files and start the game, the screen gets all green and jagged and messed up. pretty much can't see anything. i tried all of the resolutions and the ones without border fix, and none of them work. any recommendations?
terencespark 2 Jul, 2016 @ 8:16pm
i also want to request the 1600X900 resolution, but of course not as important.. since i can't even get the one without border fix to get it working on my computer.

This mod makes my game looks a lot darker, even with it turned off with F11 it DOES modify the image messing the brightness/gamma
