Mod request: cutscene skip workaround
If I remember correctly, SE stated that it's not possible to implement cutscene skipping in FFX. As it's really tedious to watch over 5-minute-long cutscenes all over again if you lose to Seymour Flux, Yunalesca or Braska's Final Aeon, I'd like to see a workaround for getting past those scenes faster. Here are a few ways I can think of:

1) hack the speedup booster so that 2x and 4x speed affects cutscenes.
-or-
2) add a button command that forces the FPS to 60 or even 120, which will effectively make the cutscenes play out 2x or 4x faster.
-or-
3) add a manual quicksave command. This way, you can quicksave around the end of the cutscene, and load there if you need to restart.

Any alternate workaround suggestions are also welcome.

I think 1 or 3 are the most likely to happen.

Not sure if it will work, but have you tried using the speedhack option in cheatengine? It's not perfect, as you'll have to alt tab to start and stop it, but it could be useful. I would test it out to see if it works, but I can't even get the game to launch properly anymore after playing for ~24 hours, lol.

The speedhack option in Cheat Engine doesn't work for me for some reason (edit: looks like the Esc menu becomes faster with speedhack, and the FPS displayed by Fraps changes, but nothing in the game is affected). I did find an address for FPS. It is of the form 60/x, where x=2 by default, and x=1 on the menu. Setting it to x=1 doubles the speed of cutscenes, so it's at least a temporary workaround, although not the most convenient one. For those who know more about Cheat Engine, is it possible to force integer values to become doubles or floats? If yes, speeds over 60 FPS are possible with positive values that are less than 1. Otherwise, 60 FPS is the max I can get with Cheat Engine.

Sorry, can't help you with that, as my knowledge of CE is rudimentary at best. You've already taken it further than I would have known how to. Hopefully someone with more experience with the program will be able to help you out.

Really? Which cutscene is that?

IIRC, there's 4 cutscenes in the game where I'd use the cutscene skipping feature. One is the Zanarkand intro when you start the game. It's not long, but there's not much going on there, and I've seen it so many times already. :D The 3 others are the boss battles I mentioned in my original post. If those 3-4 cutscenes can be skipped, that'd probably be enough for me.

Have you found a flag to when 2x and 4x speedup boosts mute the sounds and speedup the game? One possibility would be to allow the mute + speedup combination everywhere, even during cutscenes.

Would be really awesome with a cutscene skipper. I hope someone figures something out! Keep up the good work and research!
