Having troubles running mod exe - SOLVED
OK, here was the exact installation procedure I used for installing the mod as detailed within the mods readme.

For reference, I am running Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

Navigated to Final Fantasy 6 installation folder. In my case it's the following path:

D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Final Fantasy 6

I then created a backup folder in that director called main obb backup and copied and pasted my main.obb file into that folder as directed by the readme to back up my main.obb before attempting mod.

Then I copied the "UncensoredSiren01.exe" file directly into the root directory of the Final Fantasy 6 folder so it looked executable path looked like this

D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Final Fantasy 6\UncensoredSiren01.exe

I then double-clicked the executable to run it. The executable then prompted a warning to click OK to. Then gave me the choice to install to the obb it found in the directory or browse to a different location, or cancel. I clicked OK.

The patch process completed and told me the patch was applied successfully. But since I don't have a save file with Siren to test, I can't confirm at this point if it's applied correctly.

Please contrast this with your installation procedure and highlight any discrepencies/differences. Also, when you say that you can't get the mod to work. In what way are you talking about.

Did you complete installation and not see a change in game?

Is the installer claiming patch failed to install?

Are you unable to get the installer to run at all?

Thanks in advance for any info.

P.S. If it helps, this is the download link I used to download this mod:

P.S.S. If you are having trouble getting the installer to run at all and you've exhausted the permissions avenue, you should consider your firewall/antivirus as a possible source of the issue. Especially if your AV sofware is trying to run the executable within whats known as sandbox mode. Sandbox mode is well known to cause issues with certain types of programs. So you may want to consider disabling sandbox mode or your AV altogether when attempting to install the mod.
Actaully I have modded the game with an executable. In fact, I believe it was part of the reason you invited me to this group in the first place.

This was the thread where I posted a mod for removing the bilinear filtering using an executable mod. So yes, I do know how to mod using an executable. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. And when i was asking why you would be looking for an executable for a specific mod, I was referring to why you look for the executable in the task manager. Is it for the installation process (which would be a reasonable thing to check), or is it for the use of the mod in game (in which case the concerns I posted in my previous post become relevant.)

Also, as in my first post, he still has yet to specify exactly which mod he's trying to install. How does the mod executable work. As with a lot of mods that use executables, many of them tend to be batch based. Often simply double clicking the executable doesn't work because of issues with windows. The most you will get is a quick flash and disappear of the command prompt preventing you to interacting with it as the executable is originally meant to be interacted with. Especially if you are trying to execute the program from C: drive. Often times, the only way to get these executables to work properly is to open a command prompt in administrator mode -> navigate to the executable directory -> and then execute the program.

Also, many mods executables, in order to work, must be executed within the games root directory itself or a specific subfolder. So again, the specific mod is often critical to troubleshooting. Especially when many different mods are made by different people who all don't use the same standardized method for implementing said mods, when they program the execution instructions.

But again, because he hasn't specified which mod exactly he's trying to install, it's a bit difficult to investigate the issue properly to give him a more direct path to troubleshoot.

Originally posted by Saftle:
but in this case, even his very vague description was enough because all of the EXEs that wouldn't work are all created using the same tool.

Really? All of the exe's? because I haven't seen him name a specific one yet. And based on what I've read above, he's claimed that "some" are working while others are not. So if all of the exe's are created for use by the same tool, how does it make sense that some of them are working while others are not. It stands to reason that if some are working while others are not, then the issues might be with the mods themselves and not the tool (if all were created by the same tool) or there are mods that he is attempting to use that may not have been made by said tool. Especially if you are personally qualifying that all of the exe's you yourself are thinking of are comfirmed tested and working. And even if all said mods are made by the same tool, are they all made by the same person as well following the same installation procedures? These are legitimate deductions and questions and worth considering.

Hope this helps.

P.S. You should never assume the mods one person is talking about are the same ones you're thinking of. That will bite you in the ass more times than you can count. Never assume. Always be specific. Just a piece of advice from personal experience.
