how do I make this game look prettier?
Put a bow in it's hair.

But nah, the game looks how the game looks. Until someone figures out how to swap out models and/or textures, there's not much you can do.

8bit music mod?
I'm just curious if anyone is working on or would be willing to make a mod that fully replaces all the music with the original Famicom music. I see a bunch of other music mods, and FFIV has a full SNES music replacement mod, so I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened already.

It's not really that big a deal, I don't even own FFIII yet, and I like the new soundtrack just fine, but still, it'd be a neat mod to have. Ideally the game should let you switch between the new and old soundtracks at will like the PSP version, but that sounds like more work than it's worth.
