Is this project abandoned?
I don't see any improvement recently. We cannot play game because client often crashes and often cannot upload save file properly. Is the client adapted to Windows 10? What about the new multiplayer robot project, which was in beta? Is this project abandoned? :/

No, we haven't abandoned the project. However the amount of time Tazzik and I have been able to commit to it this last year has been dismal.

We have more or less abandoned any updates to the current GMR platform, while we invest what little time we do make available into the next-gen solution (http://new.multiplayerrobot.com). Progress on that has been going at a snail's pace, but it has been going! We're close to releasing support for Beyond Earth game's, then we'll tackle some more robust community features.

I can't say exactly when the new system will get here, but it will be leaps and bounds ahead of the current one, in terms of both performance and features.

Also, yes, both the current and new windows clients should be working on Windows 10. At least they do for us and many other users.

What specific problems are you seeing?

Glad to hear that the work on new GMR is still continuing. I was worried about it being abandoned as there was no updates on Trello or here.

Many players are looking forward to the new and improved community features :-)

Thank you for your response. I am glad to hear that it is still ongoing, I wish it was faster but it is better than nothing.

About problems on Windows 10, I should make more tests to report the situation. I don't want to waste your little time for this now.

Recently upgraded my Windows machine from 8.1 to 10. Today it was the 1st time I used that machine to play my GMR games and unfortuantely as soon as I save my file (clicking next turn in Civ 5, getting the save dialog, clicking save), GMR desktop client crashes without any errors, instead of prompting me to upload the save file as usual.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing GMR Desktop Client, did not help.

I tried launching GMR Desktop Client with "run as administrator" through the start menu, r-click on "Gİant Multiplayer Robot", more, run as administartor; but this failed even launching the GMR Desktop Client.

(BTW, the GMR Desktop Client shortcut on my desktop is now showing "Application reference" as the type of file, instead of "Shortcut" and therefore it does not show where the "target file" is and any search for "giant" or "gmr" did not find me where the executable is; I was looking for it to be able directly launch from the exe and run as an administrator to check if that would help the issue.)

Anyway, in summary I am unable to use the GMR Desktop Client on my Windows 10 machine. Any ideas how to make it work?

I am still unable to use the GMR Desktop Client on my Windows 10 machine, it continues to shut down etiher by itself or when the I save a game which then was supposed to take me to the GMR Desktop Client to prompt me with "Submit Turn" dialog...

Found the culprit, having different resolutions for desktop and the Civ 5 game causes GMR Desktop Client to shutdown while the computer is switching between resolutions.

We all really need to hear from the developers, anything, something... There are many GMR players that feel like GMR is abandoned; I choose to believe that is not the case. I hope I am right.

We're still alive, but haven't been able to invest much time into GMR lately :(

I'm not sure what a fix is for the desktop client yet as I actually have been unable to get CiV to load a Hot Seat game on my PC for awhile now. @ayubalugu, could you reproduce the crash and email me your GMR Client debug logs and I'll see if anything surfaces in there?

The problem I wrote above was the crash of GMR Desktop Client (it just shuts down and disappears) and I have identified the issue as being related to having different resolutions for desktop and the Civ 5 game, which causes GMR Desktop Client to shutdown while the computer is switching between resolutions after I hit save (as the PC is now getting the focus back to the desktop). There really is nothing of importance (started a fresh one beore testing) in the debug file:

--------------- 8/22/2016 | 11:26:04 AM ---------------
Action: Downloading save file 23453
Start

--------------- 8/22/2016 | 11:26:11 AM ---------------
Action: Downloading save file 23453
Got bytes, length 397707

--------------- 8/22/2016 | 11:26:11 AM ---------------
Action: Downloading save file 23453
Decompressed bytes, length 506285

--------------- 8/22/2016 | 11:26:11 AM ---------------
Action: Downloading save file 23453
Wrote bytes to file, path 'd:\Users\FCD\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Saves\hotseat\GMR Temp\Gak's Frantic Atlatlist.Civ5Save'

--------------- 8/22/2016 | 11:26:11 AM ---------------
Action: Downloading save file 23453
Finished

PS: I used to use the same reolution for my desktop and Civ 5 while I was on Win 7 and Win 8 but started using different res when I moved to Win 10, so I only observed this issue on Win 10, not sure if it is reporoducible on Win 7 or Win 8.

Very interesting! Thanks for the info @ayubalugu. I'll try reproducing that sometime and see if I can find the bug causing it to crash.
any chance for a client for iMacs?
