Converting GMR Game to Local Hotseat then back to GMR
I thought I had read somewhere that this was possible, but am having trouble finding where I thought I read this initially. Figured it was worth posing the question rather than trying it and messing up save data and losing our game.

Basically, friend and I are currently playing a game via GMR as normal, but would like to churn out some turns when we get a chance to hang out in person, doing so on one computer. If we play multiple turns and then submit the final save (after we are done with the in-person session) to GMR, will it resume the game as normal from there? Or may there be complications?

Hopefully this question makes sense.

Thanks for offering this amazing service! My buddy and I are loving connecting over Civ 5 and GMR has really been the resource that has made it able to happen.

Glad you're enjoying GMR! You can play your game locally, as long as you follow a few steps:

- All players need to turn off password encryption for the game via the game's detail page
- Download the save as if you were taking your turn. At this point, the file should play normally.
- Get the game to where it's waiting for the player after you, as if you'd taken your turn on GMR. Upload this as your turn.

Thanks so much! Will be giving this a try tonight. Hoping it works!

Does the turn counter in GMR reflect the in-game turn counter? Does GMR detect that you have taken, say, ten turns "offline" when it's re-uploaded?

I think I tried to do this a while back and GMR was showing a different number of "turns taken" than the save file showed...

GMR's turn counter is independent of the game's. It wont know if you took one turn vs. ten. However, Multiplayer Robot 2.0 will have more sophisticated save file parsing and will be able to pull the actual number from the file.
