How to fix "A secure connection could not be made to the VAC servers" issue?
I've been grinding for the medals, but the #1 thing hindering my progress is I constantly get disconnected for "A secure connection could not be made to the VAC/steam servers". I probably have a total of around 6 hours now completely wasted because I get booted out before I can finish the mission. This has never happened to me prior to this event - playing on valve matchmaking servers I've never had this problem, but since I've been grinding MvM it's been extremely common, and nobody else seems to be having the same issue - help?

This is a Valve issue; I'm not sure why you're encountering it more frequently on Potato servers. Possibly validate your game files to see if that helps and make sure you're on a steady internet connection. Other than that, consider searching google for other people's solutions; this isn't anything specific to our servers.

I tried googling it, but the only solution I could find was deleting my appcache folder, but that didn't do anything. The reason I posted here (among other places) was because I've never encountered this problem before (I've never really played on community servers until a few weeks ago, always valve matchmaking), so I though maybe this is just a normal thing on community servers or something.

this happened to me a few times recently. here's what I did:

  1. close Steam
  2. open the Task Manager, and click the Services tab
  3. check that Steam Client Service isn't stuck on "Stopping"
if it is, then you're having the same problem I had. here's what I did to fix it:
  1. click the Processes tab in Task Manager
  2. under Background Processes, look for Steam Client Service (32 bit), and End task
  3. restart Steam
