I call lit a self-annihilation impulse. I'm not suicidal or wanting self harm of any kind, in a good place emotionally generally but any time I'm at the precipice of something and my actions could take it from safe to fatal I feel a compulsion that I have to resist to take that step. For example, the urge to open a car door while its traveling 70+ mph, leaning "just a little bit further" over an upper story railing or ledge, pulling the emergency handle on the airplane door, etc. I'd never do any of these things but I get the urge.
