Would I be in trouble for this?
Say I open a trade. In this trade, I offer up an item for another item, without the intention to trade - but use it as a means to find solds or successful buys of something particular by using the Matches section?

The matches section allows me to find trades open with some things possibly sold in them. If I do this, I would always turn off my autobump and never bump the trade. My intention is to help find solds or buyers in order to get evidence for bp.tf price suggesting.

If I have violated the "Listed Items are not for sale", I understand, and will take down/close my current trade. Just asking for some clarification.

Thanks for your time!

You can use the search function and get the same results and it would also save you the trouble of creating a trade each time.

And yes you're only allowed to list items with the intention to actually sell them so what you're doing would be against the rules.

I didn't think you could search for items already sold, or at least, "hidden" from the trade.

Through the search function that is..

You cannot find closed trades via just the search button. You need to manually scroll through users' previous histories on Outpost to find it in order to use as evidence on backpack.tf.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I do know about that method too. Using the matches section, you are able to find solds but not fully closed trades with the item(s) in question.

Regardless, I believe this thread doesn't need further discussion, so I'll close the /trade/ which I have up which is for that particular purpose. Sorry if it caused any headaches :)

I don't think matches work that way. The only reason greyed items might show up is because they're very old trades from when the item toggle button wasn't implemented.

Actually, some of them are quite new. I tend to find a few from around 3 or 4 days before with a "SOLD" in the comments for those greyed items.

Can you give an example? I've checked several pages of matches and I haven't found any greyed items.

Sure thing!

Reopened my trade for the Strange Southern Hospitality - http://puu.sh/8ydH7.png
Then I scrolled down the matches. After a while, I found this: http://puu.sh/8ydIS.jpg
There's two more lower down in the matches (first and last here): http://puu.sh/8ydUI.jpg

While the first two are month old trades and the last one is a 3 week old trade, it doesn't exactly help too much to support the case, but I do know that you can't search for an item and expect it to be greyed out unless you're using matches, or if they are selling three and one happens to be greyed out.

You don't/won't find closed trades through matches either, but you can find greyed items in question.

I see now, anyway being able to view closed trades has been suggested before. Whether it will be implemented or not remains to be seen.

I think it would be great to do that, or at least include the option in the case of whether they have been greyed or not. Saves me from having to make a trade which violates the rules.

I have reclosed my trade again. I won't reopen it unless I am absolutely certain I must. Thanks for your help norby89! :D
