Requirements exist and must be followed for a reason, and if you don't understand the reason then that's another sign you are not mature enough.
With that said, however, this volunteer position is a demanding one and also one that we have seen high school students struggle with maintaining. University students have a difficult enough time keeping up with the workload. "Older people", as you say, are actually better equipped to deal with increased workload as their experience with jobs provides them with the ability to better maintain a work/life balance. Time management skills and multitasking skills increase significantly as one enters adulthood.
Right now you need to focus on your studies, on getting into university, on working through not only your coming of age into the adult world but also your personal growth. Games are fun but volunteering is difficult work and stressful work- it's not something that you should be burdened with right now.
As for people lying about their ages- we have a multi-step interview process which includes verifying personal information that is provided to us. All of our staff members know each others' real names and we treat each other as professional colleagues would in a work environment.
I hope that helps explain a little bit more about why our policies are as they are. Also, if your parent asks you to do the dishes, please do them without making him/her nag you.
P.S.- We don't "punish" scammers, per se. We ban them on our site to protect our community, but only Valve can enact trade bans. If you're out for revenge, you should use that energy to report scammers on their Steam profiles.
