Saving The Market
So I think we all can agree the market is not in a good shape keys have reached 12.66 ref and buds fell to 14 keys, the cause of this is the inflation of metal which is growing because metal can be crafted with weapons which the players can get by simply playing the game.

I decided to make this thread to try and come up with a solution to the situation, personally I think that only valve can stop the inflation but I am interested to hear your ideas about fixing the situation.

I have two ideas that could work:

1. If Valve lowers the price of keys from 2.5$ to something like a dollar people would buy more keys thus pumping more keys into the market making the ration of keys/metal better and lowering the key prices to something like 5 ref ( not great but better then 12.66)

2. Valve could set up bots that would sell keys for about 3 ref and delete the metal they are getting, doing so will lower the inflation because metal will be removed from the market and keys would be pumped into it and it could be a permanent solution if valve were to keep those bots around.

Please tell me what you think and suggest your own ideas.

( If you think this is not related here please delete the thread)

why would they do that when they are making insane profit of keys?

Money > Community.

Why would Valve lower the price of their money maker of tf2 for just a small portion of people who trade in tf2?

People are leaving the market or moving to other markets in insane rates, in the short term they will make more money if they dont change anything but they could make more money if the market stays alive for a longer time so they will keep selling keys in high rates.

The "inflation" only affects low tier traders, Valve won't suddenly make more money from scrap bankers or hat traders because they wouldn't have bought keys anyway (with real money) and it's not like keys are less affordable now than before, they're still priced at $2.50.

You're looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The only way the price in Ref will lower is if Valve gives people reason to craft their metal, like they did with the Bread Boxes.

1. Valve will never lower the price of keys.

2. Valve will never create bots to trade items.

1.) TF2 is a game, Steam is a platform for valve and developers to make money and for no one else

2.) Valve is not a ponyfarm but a profit oriented company

Always keep this in mind when you talk about market and economy. So who exactly is leaving the market? The people shifting around metals? Valve earns NOTHING on metal, they earn only on stuff that can/must be bought at mannco, plus if you sell this stuff on community market. Did you realize that you cannot sell anything on the market that you got for free, you can sell only items that directly or indirectly (promos, unboxes) have been bought from valve.

Valve couldnt stop the mass idling by technical means so now they stop them by financial means, and apparently this is working very well for them or otherwise they would change something. This has, as always, a negative effect, it seperates the poor from the rich much stronger, aka the ones who spend monies and the ones who dont.

Previously you could pretty easily get an item that was only available for money for items that were available for free with money flowing into the pockets of a user. Now this way takes way more time and effort so its much faster to put your own money into the pockets of valve instead.

Apparently enough people have chosen the faster route so there is nothing for valve to fix, end of story. Bottom line: get yourself a real job.
