Steam Trading suspension
Anyone ever get suspended from being able to trade on Steam? Anyone know how it works, or if contacting support will actually result in anything (like the suspension being removed sooner?)

What had happened: I DON'T KNOW.
I got a message today saying I've been suspended for violating their trading policies, but looking over the page there is nothing I have done wrong. I'm a good trader, never scam anyone, have hundreds of trades. 10 year member of steam, 380+ games in my library, I'm a loyal steam customer.

I did deal with some rude traders who added me not bothering to read my trade details...is it possible they reported me for something I didn't do?

Anyways, just venting and seeing if anyone else has encountered this before?

I'm assuming someone clicked the report button just to be jerks/trolls. The steam market I had 2 Foil cards for sale, but people listed theirs for lower so they just sat there...
I honestly don't know who I pissed off or why anyone reported me. It's very frustrating. If I get any duplicate Snow Globe cards I can't do anything about it. Happy Holidays from steam.

If it was a mistake, I recall the message has a link to steam support. Open a ticket to say you were wrongly temp trade banned. They will ask you to prove ownership and will investigate it.
It will probably take a week + but if you were wrongly trade banned, you won't get the probatation afterwards.

You must have bought some hijacked items. Check to see if anything is missing. It can even be craft hats.

First thing I checked was to see if anything of mine was missing..which doesn't appear to be the case. I did open a ticket with Steam Support..but seriously? A week?

I don't think I should have to prove anything, they keep logs of who traded what to who, and everything in my inventory was traded for through their Trade Window.

Does anyone know how many 'reports' against your account it takes to get suspended? Or why there isn't any sort of "Hey, you've been reported, you should be good or else" type warnings?
Depending on the date of when you were trade banned, today perhaps? I don't see a loss of items or rather value of your backpack if it had anything to do with hijacked items like Liddo said. I don't believe that hijacked items are deleted though, they are typically duped and will remain in both backpacks which doesn't change the value any. It does happen at times when players mistakenly banned from Steam but this is a rare occurrence and by taking it up with them you shall be unbanned if what you are stating is of course, correct.

Typically after submitting a ticket it will take around 5 days or more before you get a response, be patient and you shouldn't expect to many delays in the process. Bumping will only create a longer waiting process and I can tell that you want to get back into trading soon.

Good luck to whatever the outcome may be though.

Edit to answer your question:
Steam doesn't just ban your account because someone hit the report button in a trade or on your Steam profile page nor do reports add up, they investigate into it. This is just an extra feature in order to help rid of bad users, et cetera. They can't rely on only a simple user report to ban someone as many can create their own biases against some.

My Steam Support ticket was answered in 16 days when I got hijacked awhile ago, since then new features have been added to help ease he flow of these tickets, just be patient.

You don't need to prove you didn't do anything.
I said prove ownership. Steam support is separate from your steam account. So you'll have to prove you are in fact the owner of your account.

And it does take around a week even longer.
And I'm sure no matter how many times people hit report in the trade window it won't end up with you getting trade banned.

If you end up getting trade banned over people reporting you, then it's probably a deserved ban. Otherwise no you don't get trade banned just because some people misused the report button.

Steam temporarily bans accounts that are involved in trafficking fraudulently purchased items (games, keys) for investigation. Like others have mentioned it could be due to buying hijacked items. Either way it will take a couple of weeks at least to have it lifted due to Steam Support being so slow.

Well, that does make sense, I could've easily passed stolen goods through my inventory. I find the time it takes to sort it out a bit ridiculous and not great customer service. Guess I have to wait. Thanks for everyones input.

Still not happy about it, but nothing I can do until they get back to me.
Steam Support is the slowest ever, but in the end it's well worth the wait...depending on the outcome :p

Best of luck.

I just wonder if u do buy a hijacked item not knowing its hijacked surely common sence
would kick in before a ban is given............
To clear things up:

1) Profile trading reports do stack up, and a warning is automatically shown after a certain number is reached. It happened to me. Trade bans, however, have nothing to do with these reports.

2) There is no common sense on these matters. It's up to the trader to check the history of the items. It is usually very easy to know whether an item is hijacked/stolen or not, but sometimes one may still slips by.

3) Support takes from one to several days to reply to a ticket. There's no estimate time.

4) Market offenses include a ban from the market as well, if you are not banned on the market then it happened on normal trades.

5) Steam usually acts only when they find there's enough evidence to punish the user. Explaining the situation might grant you a shorter ban, though.

I possibly know the reason of your ban...it happened to me too some months ago.
I bought a stolen Earbud for Keys then I got trade locked..but then i contacted them, explained the situation and they removed me the trade lock after 3-5 days

So Steam Support is useless, they don't give me any idea about what I supposedly scammed, nothing from my inventory is missing, I did nothing wrong and have no way to prove it.

SO NEXT QUESTION:

What are Steam, and TF2OP rules about having a second Steam Account soley for trading? I don't want to continue risking my 10+ yr account if this is how Steam handles this crap.

Steam encourages users to have idle/trade accounts because guess what; that's extra $ for them once you buy premium in order to trade those items. The only thing they hate is using third party sources to get drops but that's mostly with idling and you will get hit with the ban hammer for it. I am not sure if there is a rule against that for TF2OP though since I don't see anything regarding it, but I would imagine its fine considering you are only using it for "good".

You may have/use an alternate account as long as none of your accounts are banned - if one is banned then all the others will be banned too and any new ones will be banned for ban evasion.
