The Vice is the President of the Senate, although according to the constitution, holds no vote other than in the case of a tie.
Obviously, he serves as the stand in president in the event of the premature ending of the presidents term, due to death or otherwise. The senate then picks a temporary Vice from one of their own.
The majority of his other roles are mostly ancilliary, and entirely informal.
