Scam or sacrifice?
Right, well the purpose of this thread I feel is to try distinguish between scamming (via sharking or taking advantage of someone) and persuading (lowering someones price down for the same effect).
example 1:
Someone has a hat valued at 3 refined and they want to sell it.

(just using myself as an example)

(Outcome 1)
I see this guy wanting to sell it, I offer 2 refined and he's happy with the transaction. I understand that taking advantage of him is bad.

But what if the person is happy with the transaction, can he be a victim?

(Again - I'm just opening this for discussion)

(Outcome 2)
He knows the hat is 3 refined. I by use of persuasion, am able to complete the trade by giving 2 refined. Here, has he been in terms of value sense, scammed?

Given the outcome for both situations is 2 refined, is one considered scamming and the other not. (No need to direct this to me, I understand it).
~~~
For the discussion involving you i.e. the community, please question how you'd like to... but try to stay on the topic of whether which one is a scam or not, or both are.
I feel numerous people have thought of this, including myself.
(I hope this doesn't somehow get me in trouble - I'm coming forward with this topic to assist those who trade regularly)
Neither is a scam. What you just described is all part of trading, it's called persuasion. It's the main reason why prices change all the time.
That hat might have been valued at 3 ref at the time of your transaction but the fact that he was willing to part with it for 2 ref might mean that the hat is overvalued.
Offering someone way lower than the item's worth can be considered sharking. It's a scam when you deceive someone into believing that their item isn't worth all that much (aka lying) and taking advantage of their little experience.
For example you convince someone that their hat is worth 3 weapons but you'll give them 4 because you're such a nice guy.
tl;dr: lowballing != scamming
I knew this already. Some corrections were made before this final copy. But outcome 1 was suppossed to be a few weapons for it, it's sharking then yes. I'll see to ammending the desc possibly.
The whole point about this thread was to have peoples' thoughts written before them e.g. "Oh I always wondered that" kind of thing. I'm quite content on my knowledge of trading etc, but are the community that click onto this thread? I'd suppose you may have statistics saying this and that but I'm inclined to think that not everyone would know the difference between these two outcomes.
You know what I'm going on about, and it was written rather quickly... just ammend some areas to make it more sound, before publishing possibly.
