I had a quick question
sometimes i see on outpost that people are selling games for a lower value in keys than the game itself costs.

i dont understand it at all =/

for example here: amnesia: a machine for pigs
costs $16 on preorder sale right now

but on outpost people are selling them for 6 keys.
for all intents and purposes lets just say a key costs ~$2 on steam market
6 x 2 = 12

?????

how are these people selling the games for LESS than retail?
anyone help me understand?

The free market, they are selling for a lower amount because they don't have a monopoly on the market, driving them to lower their to attract more buyers. As to why they would sell it for less, there are some dodgy ways to acquire games on steam. Meaning that they still earn a profit selling for, as an example 6 keys.
Don't quote me on the last thing, I don't regularly deal in games.

Nothing dodgy about it and yes they do make profit out of it. The answer is simple, different pricing region.

The game costs $ 9.65 (€ 7.23) in russia. You can easily sell the keys for 1,7-1,8$, so its easy profit.

I also getting real mad at valve and publishers for region locking all recent AAA games. In 2011 I'd used to do exactly as described, buy game for $30 (like MW3) and sell it for buds for pure profit. Now everywhere I go I see that stupid notice:

Notice: Purchases made in Russia and CIS countries will only be playable in Russia and CIS countries.

You're mad at Valve that they're not allowing you to exploit them for your own personal gains. I'm sorry that's just... lol

All games since 2012 are region locked, all AAAs that is.

Not all people leave in a first world. Every bit of income are welcomed.

Americans, who dickates world's rules, are either too ignorant or too jealous of europe. I have nothing to do with it, and in fact, if there were no region locking, you could easily make it fair by buying AAAs from russians.

See, common misconception, what I'm doing, I'm just making it fair for everyone. You think it's fair to get 0.33 per week in tf2, whereas 1 key cost at least 6.00? Fuck no, it's not.

For valve, first region locking all games, and now disabling idling in tf2 was last straw for me. Valve is too big a corporation for you to ignore them or their intentions. YOU ARE OWNED BY VALVE, never forget that. You think why recently there was a court case brought up towards Valve by some germany organization who's for owning rights on digital products. What if your valve crashes tomorrow (not likely, but what if), what you gonna do? You'll be left with a tail between your legs.

I can foresee our distant future... The confrontation of big corporations like microsoft and valve deciding your freedom. Everything digitalized.

But I digress. :spazdunno:

So what you're saying is that we're headed to a dystopian future ruled by corporations because of region locked games and Valve not allowing you to idle endlessly?
