You cannot accuse people of scamming without any evidence. And if you do have evidence, file a report.

That happens if your browser is configured to delete all cookies at the end of the session. The Steam cookie that identifies your computer is deleted and you have to enter the Auth Code every time. So it is more a Steamguard / Steam and Browser issue than OP.

If you use Firefox (don't know about others) you can set it up so that all cookies except from Steam will be deleted at the end of the session.

I don't see the problem with having a private bp if you plan to be absent for quite some time. Chances are no one will report you anyway. And if they do, you probably did try to trade (with someone) on OP. Should you get banned regardless you can make your bp public again and appeal the ban later.

That may be a little inconvenient for both, you and mods, as mods need to do that manually and it creates workload.

But since you can't close your OP account, that's the only way I see.

Just because you decide you want to refrain from trading (using OP), shouldn't restrict you in your free choice to have a private backpack or come back later with a public bp again.

But that would not make sense if you just want to take a break for a few days. You should just leave your bp public then.
Do really that many people add you randomly when you have no trades open and don't offer anywhere?

Nah, they are trades. No rule against putting up a trade you will execute in the future. In fact all trades are actually done in the future, however far or short into it.
And the fact that it is known that they will become tradable lets you assume that those early trades indeed have the intention to trade their tux.
And it's probably not a bad idea either if you intent to sell, as I suspect they will fall in value quickly once they become tradable.
