Sadly, with the size of the community, giving warnings would just be too time consuming when the mods are already dealing with an almost constant days worth of reports and other things piling up. Also, not many people actually listen to warnings anyway, which would only add more to their work load.

Just remake the trade if it's as you say, there wouldn't be a reason to close that one and it's much easier than dealing with mods.

The mods cannot be babysitters to everyone at all times. They go through an entire backlog of reports that people make (and that includes all the petty ones people make whenever they're mad about offers or get their feelings hurt). If you report something, it will be dealt with eventually. Though if it's something as miniscule as joke offers on Tux trades, then it's probably better to hide/ ignore it and move on.

well, part of it could be that steam as a messenger is notoriously out of date and primitive. We just recently got the ability to send offline messages and have a chatlog (that only goes back a few previous messages). There is still no invisible status that lets you see who is on and offline without yourself appearing online, and most other simple things that have been requested for years.

Sorry to say, but I think this is just them not really having a premium chat service as a priority.

Many people miss a feature when removed. The various roleplay communities have taken it very hard. I sadly only learned about the feature once it was announced it was being taken out.

It wasn't about impersonating Valve employees. It was removed because they could be easily confused with system messages. An increasing amount of scammers took advantage of that and abused it to trick people into thinking they can transfer wallet from one account to another. (which isn't that implausible after the release of the market)

That's the second time in 5 minutes you've got in a post right before me, you have some decent timing. I never knew about that part of scamming tactics, but it does make a lot of sense as another reason to remove it for the sake of precaution.

But Valve employees never had a different color, they have a tag next to their names that nobody else has. People will use the ignorance of others not knowing about the /me function to impersonate an employee no matter what color you allow.

People were using it to impersonate valve employees and scam others.

Sometimes the actual search options take time to update new items, and other times the mods have removed items that are not yet able to be traded or able to be giftwrapped to cut down on the number of redundant trades that include them.

A similar thing happened with the robot chicken hat, where there were numerous trades for them when it was impossible to trade them for the first few months of them existing. Keeping people from searching will discourage people making those trades in the first place.

If you can prove it, then feel free to report it along with whatever you've found. However if you do not have proof, just ignore the trade and move on. It isn't feasible on the part of the moderators to check everyone to see if they're telling the truth, and if someone has too high of a fake offer, then nobody is going to try and beat it anyway.
