Apparently this is just a houserule, but during the recruitment phase (drawing new generals), I like throwing away the general cards you don't choose so they're never seen again. I feel this gives more weight to you choosing or not choosing a particular character knowing they won't be back another time. Then again, it does mean you cycle through your general deck more in a single game.

The potential difference is that the way the game is meant to be played (by shuffling unchosen generals back into your deck) means you will see potentially less variety, but do have the opportunity to not choose someone you'd quite like in the hopes you might get them again later.

I think that both of these present interesting advantages and drawbacks and would be interested to hear whether other players had a preference for one way or the other.
