Early Access Review
"Jesse, the ♥♥♥♥ you grow is ♥♥♥♥. No more Viagra in the weed."

"No no- Viagra is my signature!"

"Jesse! We've got to become Lv. 5 hoodlums then unlock the warehouse and start cooking meth for Gus!"

Goofi, oddly relaxing game. So much 'rugs no wonder it's addictive.

Paradox Interactive's DLC practices somehow managed to surpass the amazement of the many galaxies that make up the expanding universe. DLC continues to be pushed out with no limitations.

Apart from that, it's certainly a 4X strategy.

This is how you reboot an old but beloved game series. Mick Gordon's composition is heavenly... Or hellvenly? Yeah, I'll go with that.

Recently just finished my blind play-though of the game, I went into it not expecting much; I ended up being blown away at everything game does well, and then some. Black Isle did an absolutely fantastic job with this game, the second too. Let it be known, it's no coincidence the best entry into the series (that being Fallout: New Vegas) was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, founded by the former employees of Black Isle.

I'm a sucker for the top-down view of isometric RPG games, so I didn't have an issue with the style. It added a lot of charm to this game and I honestly wish more Fallout games after the second did the same. But as we all know by now, Bethesda sucks at making any decent games (especially as of late). Soon as they acquired the IP of the Fallout series, it went downhill from there onward -- I also find it funny that this game which was released in 1997, functions better than a majority of Bethesda's game titles... Let that sink in for a second.

The combat is indeed turn based. Lot's of the negative reviews I seen of this game was the style, combat and mechanics that are outdated, or completely absent. I really don't know what those people expected going into it -- They should have done some quick research before buying the game, they would have found it wasn't in their style. You have to be fairly patient when it comes to the turn based strategy combat this game promotes, combat quickly becomes a blast when you figure it out.

This game does have a few issues relating to the vanilla experience. One major thing I would like to outline is the infamous difficulty of creating a suitable character to get you through this game. Simply put: if you do not make a character with decent stats, you will most likely end up being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over mid to late game. It's crushing, just keep in mind certain stats are basically a necessity to have high to stand a chance getting through the game. Some are obvious while others... Not so much. There is a few ways to increase certain stats later on, but not by much. That might be a major turn off, or like in my case, will keep you wanting to play because of the challenges you must overcome.

I highly recommend you download a community made mod for the game called Fallout Fixt. Basically a mega patch for the existing issues of the game, while simultaneously adding a bunch of community mods that succeed in polishing aspects of the game in dire need of it; also adding mechanics missing from the vanilla game that make it a more enjoyable experience without affecting the original game at all.

A friend of mine recently got me to try this game again with him. I didn't regret it. Many core issues have been fixed, I honestly find the game to be fun. It's current state is very playable. Still some instability, negligible compared to release day.

Shifting from diseal 2.0 (used in Payday 2) to unreal 4 engine feels like a better technical decision all around. While unreal 4 certainly has it's own issues, the graphical improvements to 3D environmental rendering, responsive physics and ray tracing compatability with different GPUs can't be overstated neither ignored no matter your stance.

Gunplay is extremely satisfying; you can almost feel the punch in each shot. All the guns are fun, at least, the ones I've unlocked through improved progression.

There still exists aspects to improve upon. Still lacking melee weapons, certain beloved characters (absolutely not Ethan and Hila Klein) to name a few.

Jacket was added again. Was the only DLC I bought. His sociopath trait + bat overkill weapon and cosmetics are very fun. Enjoying the new voice lines too.

If you can look past the remaining issues, what we are left with is a foundation of an extremely promising and fun game. It's a real shame Starbreeze didn't start off this smooth with the release of Payday 3. It might be a too little too late situation, afterall, the damage was undoubtably done.

The game is a chaotic mess of panic, fear, and screaming over voice chat, I love it.

In the beginning, you might find most of the core game mechanics confusing, but once learned fully or not? You might find yourself drawn to the game for a good few weeks. The story isn't anything special, it's lacking in many aspects, but it's simple.

The different types of passive and aggressive life to explore under the ice of Europa is certainly interesting. It was a major incentive to continue going deeper down exploring the unknown and fighting off the various dangers faced as you upgrade the submarine or switch to higher tiers ones, barely scraping by then only to be met with ever increasingly dangerous biomes as you progress.

Definitely more fun with others to play with, but isn't an issue playing solo if you are up to the challenge of managing the submarine yourself.

The AI crew isn't great and struggles with basic tasks in times of need. I'm especially sick of my engineer administrating lethal amounts of morphine into my bloodstream to treat minor pain; getting me an opiate addiction, watching in awe every damn time as my character struggles to breathe. But it's pretty entertaining to watch.

Bottom line is: plenty of things to explore, upgrades and submarines to use substances to abuse, plenty of nuclear explosives to create then deploy on the local wildlife of each biome, crew too. Screw it, blow everything up as you fight off your unruly crew plus opiate addictions you've gained during the aftermath of combat, then die to a fatal fentanyl overdose.

You can make your own fun in this game. Would recommend to anyone seeking a chaotic fun time as a crew member on a submarine exploring the unknown, depth crushing icy oceans of Jupiter's moon Europa.

Don't get me wrong, it's a really fun game, it's fun with basically any play style you can think of... It however, doesn't justify the outrageous price and the list of many problems.

The amount of bugs that have plagued the game for years (still do) is absolute insanity; the official servers Bohemia Interactive run? Complete joke. Script kids running around everywhere and you get kicked frequently if you have a wireless connection.

As you can see, the problems are extreme and aplenty, It's mainly the Hacks and Bohemia Interactive that make this game painful to play. Wait until the game is on deal, then purchase if you are interested. Play community until Bohemia Interactive decides to stop being incompetent and actually does something about this ongoing crisis.

It has gotten so bad that unofficial extremely dangerous malicious servers have ended up on the official server page. If you are unfortunate enough to accidentally join one of these servers, Remote Access Trojans (RATs) have the potential to deal serious damage on the clients end. This is borderline unacceptable and should be dealt with immediately. It's insane how such a security risk like this has gone unnoticed for a long while.

Hands down has to be the best rogue-like strategy game I've ever played. I'd be so happy when I got home from school to play this game on my terrible modified Dell Office Optiplex 790, with an attempted try at having a decent PC rig set up for what I had in hand at the time.
I was very young when I first played this game; around 12 or 13. I found it hard to begin with but over time I started get better with each passing day.

My little mind easily amazed with all the countless hours of mechanical depth, the random events, such a simple design yet, all different ships varieties and encounters to have. Various alien races with their own charm and quirks; the content felt and still manages to feel like it's never ending.

Oh... do I remember getting to the last stand with the Rebel Flag ship... I was terrified to say the least. The memories this game brought me I'll surely never forget. What's not to love about this simple yet lovable game I still find myself coming back and praising to this day? So give it a try! 10/10

(Note: has an GOD-LIKE soundtrack, my ears have been blessed to hear. Well done to Ben Prunty for this absolute perfection)

For people who have some sort of mental illness, such as myself. Recommend to all people with a lust for gore and murder.
