Looking for an incredibly fun, parkour-filled, slightly terrifying zombie experience? Then look no further than Dying Light....1

The first Dying Light is probably one of my favorite zombie themed video games. The introduction of the incredibly smooth parkour system for traversing zombie-filled environments was a blast. The night time chase scenes were terrifying, and the combat was fairly tight. The DLC The Following brought with it the buggy which allowed another entertaining way to cross the zombie filled landscape (Which also had some pretty frightening chase scenes with fast zombies).

So naturally I was pretty excited for the sequel, even after the continuous delays. I even pre-ordered it! (I know I know, shame on me). Sadly I find this game to be a major disappointment. Between the decisions to add in an unnecessary stamina system, the removal of guns, the nighttime immunity timer (counteracted by copious amounts of UV Shrooms and UV lighted areas), quest breaking bugs, and samey environments. There just isn't much to enjoy. Several areas are blatantly copy-pasted, down to the same bags/items being in the exact same locations. The characters are all hard to care about, they're either incredibly generic or just unlikable. The game has a very overall feeling of being rushed, even though it's actually been delayed several times over.

I will say that the game can look very good at times, particularly the very beginning of the story. But at the same time, the overabundance of vegetation and foliage can make it hard to tell what's going on when confronted with zombies.

I also don't understand the point of the 'Free-DLC' they've been releasing after launch. It only contains low level items that are useless if you're already played the game for any amount of time, they should at least be permanent cosmetics.

TLDR: If you haven't played the first Dying Light, and are curious about this one. I recommend you save money by buying the original. It's half the price, and overall a better game. I also believe it goes on sale fairly often, so it's worth adding to your Wishlist at the very least.

Ever since this game entered Early Access it kept appearing at the top of my recommendations. It matched the tags of dozens of my owned games, but every time I saw it I'd see the graphics and be dissuaded. I've never played Dwarf Fortress or any similar games that I know of, therefore wasn't super familiar with the concept or game play. So I just added it to my Wishlist on Steam and told myself I'd pick it up if it ever went on a decent sale.

Well years and years passed without it going on sale. Throughout this time it stayed there at the top of my recommendations, but was largely ignored. I continuously saw some of my friends rack up hundreds of hours in the game, so eventually I fired up YouTube and found some gameplay videos. Ended up finding a series about someone playing a lone cannibalistic billionaire surviving on the ice sheet on the hardest difficulty settings. I only made it a couple videos in before I decided to bite the bullet and pay for this MSPaint looking game at full price.

Next thing I knew I hadn't moved in about 12 hours and my alarm was warning me that the time to wake up for work was quickly approaching. But I couldn't sleep just yet, maybe after I finished mining out this next area for a prison cell. After all an attack wave from the nearby clan was coming soon, and they might have wounded survivors I could save. My main researcher had a bad heart after all, and if I could secure an unwilling donor he might just live a bit longer....

Well 100 hours later I think I can safely recommend this game for anyone that's on the fence. I apparently have 500+ games on Steam, and the videogame ADHD is quite real, so very few games I buy end up holding my attention for long. Rimworld is one of the few exceptions, and I foresee it stealing hundreds more hours of my life yet. It just scratches that weird creativity itch I have that few games can (Minecraft, Subnautica, and Cities: Skylines being some of the other culprits).

Also the modding community is one of the best I've seen on Steam, with pretty much any complaint you'd have about the game being fixed by at least a dozen different creators in a dozen different ways. But do note you can easily break your saves by adding and removing too many mods, so it's always best to start a fresh game after going mod crazy. There's hundreds of amazing mods I could recommend, but for any newcomers to the game I say the two must-haves are Prepare Carefully and Map Reroll.

Just wanna start by saying that Rogue Squadron II for the Gamecube is probably my favorite Star Wars game of all time, short of maybe KOTOR. So naturally I was pretty excited for this game after seeing the trailers.

Unfortunately the trailers contained more story than the actual Campaign missions. The Story missions are very reminiscent of Titanfall 1's "Campaign", where you were just playing a standard multiplayer match with expositional audio in the background. The only difference this time is the match is with AI. It's obvious the main purpose of them is to introduce you to the controls of the game, then throw you into multiplayer.

Overall this feels like a game mode that was surgically removed from Battlefront III and sold as it's own title. Had this been a mode in Battlefront, I would have been pleased with how well it worked and likely picked it often, but selling it as it's own game for $40 is just insulting. The game modes are incredibly limited and the matches become boring and repetitive quickly.

If this were a Free to Play game in Early Access, I could understand the flaws and lack of content. I would probably even be excited to see the full release of the game, but as it stands it's basically just a fancily wrapped Kinder Surprise that the factory worker forgot to put a toy in.

It's like Fusion Frenzy with Funko Pops.

(Hackers are no longer an issue since adding that anti-cheat program)

UPDATE as of 11/30/2021

I didn't install Steam so I can install other launchers and create additional accounts. I can no longer recommend this game as long as having an Epic account is a requirement. It was fun while it lasted...

While I don't have nearly as much hours as some, I do have several hundred hours across PS4, Xbox, Switch, and Steam. This game has become unplayable since this whole merger/moving to Epic. I'm having constant performance issues, controllers working in the menus but not in game (Xbox One, PS4), plus the new UI changes are just plain ugly.

I absolutely cannot recommend the game in it's current state. Not that it matters, since it can't be downloaded from Steam anymore anyways for new players.

This has no right to call itself a full game, if anything it's a well flushed out Beta release.

Every time you launch the game you're taking a chance. Are you gonna crash on launch? Maybe crash at the menu? Or my favorite, crashing as you're parachuting down, so if you rejoin the match, it can be just in time to get a laggy shotgun round the the face. Oh and I should mention that most of the time, the Crash Reporter crashes when you send the report. It's like they acknowledge that they don't plan on fixing anything. The beginning of every match is a joke, if you want to jump right into the action by going into one of the big cities, prepare to play, "Who can get the gun at your feet first?" Is it gonna be you? Or one of the people 100 yards away, who can run over, watch you go through the pickup animation over and over, laugh to themselves, call over their squad, all point and jeer, take a couple selfies, upload to their Twitch channel, then finally they pick up the gun at your feet the first try and blow you head off. When multiple people are close together on the map, the game engine just locks up. Doors wont open, guns wont render, hits wont register, and guns will go through the reload animation but not actually reload the gun. Skill has little to no bearing most of the time, it's more how lucky you are with the RNG if your shots are gonna hit or not.

Optimization is a complete joke, there simply is none. Running a Coffee Lake processor and a 1080 Ti nets me the same performance as my FX8350 with a GTX 770. Cover means nothing, you may think you're Solid Snake hiding in the bush under some shadowy tree in the distance, with no one the wiser. While in reality the foliage doesn't render past a (laughably) short distance. So in reality your dumbass is laying prone out in the open, no shadows or shrubs for miles, and the only reason you haven't been shot yet, is because half the match is waiting for someone else to take the first shot, so then they can go after them. Movement is horribly sluggish, you feel like you're trying to control a cheap robot with bad servos more than an actual person.

Oh and don't forget about the Chinese hackers. As if the game didn't need anything else going dragging it down. While Bluehole claims to be on top of catching and banning all hackers, the amount never seems to go down. The only thing I can figure is that their core players have all given up on this poor excuse for a game, sales are plummeting, and that the hackers are the only ones still buying new accounts. So gotta embrace your market, amirite.

Avoid like the plague. Maybe one of the dozens of other games copying this BR formula can get it right....
