If you can get over the fact this game has the ugliest human characters imaginable and recognize its probably the only game in the market that has successfully merged pikmin and factorio, you will come to see its a game that absolutely oneshots people with autism.

10/10, didn't expect to enjoy the game as much as I did but here we are 14 hours later.

Keith denied my free sample four times in a row at 85%.
I decided to craft a bud so specifically tailored to Keiths genome it effectively oneshots him with hyper addiction.
I assign a dealer to specifically target Keith with 5 stacks of this bud every day; bankrolls more than my first dealer who hits an entire neighrborhood.
Named this bud BBC.
I got Keith addicted to BBC because he wanted to be a ♥♥♥♥ with my free samples.

This game has awoken a 'Woman playing the Sims' mentality in me.

10/10.

For a game that has previously advertised itself as a 'Keep your head down, you are a civilian in a warzone, witness the spectacle and loot what you can get' its current state is very... Not meeting that expectations.

I have admittedly only been playing on singleplayer, as I was going to do from the games launch.

When the AI is working as intended, it is very much a spectacle with plenty of opportunity to dip in and dip out. But when it is NOT working as intended, expect a lot of conga-line trails of enemies to come check out why a drone was destroyed only to immediately path to your position and do it repeatedly ad nauseum.

Premise of the setting is fantastic, I enjoy the crunchy world, and the difficulty (when everything is working as intended) is fantastic.

But you are going to die. A lot.
Like, thirty seconds out into the map a lot even as stealthy crouchy sneaky beaky a lot.
The premise of the game is most certainly nifty, but when the game was advertised as a sort of 'civilian wartime witnessing' game I expect a lot less 'I looted a weapon part and now hunter killers know my location and will never cease until I extract'.

Cannot recommend in its current state, especially as a solo player without a group of people to play with.

Will of course update after a few months and giving it a second go. The world and setting is far too fantastic for me to give up on it so easily.

Kind of crazy that the same devs behind Magicka made Helldivers, and eventually Helldivers 2 is on the horizon.

I won't lie, the game has aged like trash and it certainly doesn't carry from Magicka 1 the same charm and flow. But with Shadow Wizard Money Gang being part of its own meme culture now I'm genuinely surprised there's no Magicka 3 on the horizon that combines the same third person aspects of Helldivers 2.

Man you know how you watch a company attempt to completely turn around its image by doing constantly updates, even sponsoring an anime production that spins its native setting into a wonderful light?

And then some executive board member comes out and states the absolutely worst things an executive can possibly declare in a time of the worst social and political strife and further tanks the image of their company and single-handedly eradicates all consumer trust in the blink of an eye?

Welcome to new CDPR.

This is coming from someone who has 200 hours minimum in rust, ark, and Conan exiles.
Pros: very simple mordhau style combat system where where the direction you swing from is where you do damage, and when you right click in that direction you block damage from that direction

The vehicles are incredibly satisfying to build, drive, and upgrade where you statistically have to have multiple vehicles to get your job done. Vehicle management system is incredibly easy because you can quite literally pack up your vehicle and store it on a larger Walker. There's even a dedicated Titan Walker called the panda that stores five vehicles of every type excluding founder walkers.

Group oriented play is encouraged, but solo play is easy to achieve and not punishing. The only time you are literally forced to group is when you're taking down the sand worm.

An absolutely amazing nomadic playstyle where you can literally pack up your face and put it on a walker, or build a walker specifically designed for base building to make a completely mobile base.

Higher tier walkers are balanced and that they don't completely remove the necessity of having a base, but make moving your base even easier and allow you to move even larger bases.

Despite being a resource gathering survival game, it doesn't feel grindy. There's a bit of a wait time when you're building a torque farm, but you quickly begin to steamroll once you get your first five turbines.

There is an interesting in character server hop mechanic that allows you to drift between PVE and PVP servers as well as different difficulty rating biomes. You are at literally zero risk of being offline raided if you plan ahead and move your base and your walkers off the map tile and into the sandstorm.

The entire game bases it's self mostly around water. Resurrection mechanics are dependent on water, traveling between map tiles is dependent on water, every single stage of crafting has some sort of water dependency. Even food does not sate you, you only eat to stop dehydration.

I genuinely do agree that this game is better than rust, ark, and Conan exiles. The only thing it doesn't have is nudity.

Cons:
The AI is kind of weird on PVE critters. Rurus or as I call them desert monkeys seem to clip in and out of the map whenever they're on patrol status, but there's not really a lot of that issue whenever you're actually in combat with them.
I've absolutely no experience with PVP so I can't give a good diagnosis of how that is or how that plays. The server I'm on has clusters of PVE and PvP map tiles so I'm generally allowed to play however the hell I want.
Hookshotting can get very weird whenever you're in desert monkey camps. Hook shotting in general is just very weird in this type of game because you're not used to verticality unless you're used to games like Conan exiles. It's very titanfallesque though.
Creating a base and settling down is very enticing but you are punished for doing so and you are heavily rewarded for being active and mobile, this is a very nomadic game and you are expected to follow that playstyle.
Map tiles erase after 10 days and new ones are formed on the Eastern side of the map tile. The further west your tile drifts on the world map, the less of a lifespan it has.

Pretty solid state for an alpha, just hoping it doesnt enter development hell.

Pros: lots of early progress in world and design, large variety of monsters. Plenty of room to develop, but I'd like to see a developer roadmap to see where it goes or plans to go.

cons: few actual game mechanics, a level of sameface Nyuunzi would feel threatened by, few actual bodysliders.

This is going to be one of the best adult games on Steam since Eroico. It's clearly designed with VR in mind, but the PC format is actually pretty good. I wish I could play it more without constantly stopping.

Edit: I have learned to hate smug elves.

So imagine Conan, ARK, or RUST.
Give it a magic system.
Now give them ARK 1.0 bugs.

Dark and Light has a LONG way to go to get to the standards they hold for everyone else; and their questlog and translations don't exactly match up at times. However as far as an extremely buggy, crashy ARK-clone Dark and Light is; the magic system in place almost makes the game worth the amount of purchasing. So far I have stuck simply to single player to try and min-max my characters, but I have dabbled into some multiplayer.

So far I have dabbled almost exclusively into exploring the magic system in place. It has been plenty of fun, but more often than not it has been lackluster in damage compared to bow and arrow. Don't even try to use a sword and shield in this game, the fauna will absolutely floor you.
A 'Time Used = Skill Gained' style of magical progression paired with lackluster output in raw damage and staffs breaking after phenomenally short times; this system is just incredibly weak at the moment. Maybe if I keep playing and grinding out, I'll get the higher hitting staff heads.

So far the game needs a lot of work; but the devs need to SHOW that work is happening. I see constant game updates by the week from my download queue but the website hasn't been touched since March 2018.

It probably helps to show people you're alive, Snail.
