Story-focused point and click adventure with puzzle and thriller elements. Quite possibly the most frustrating recurring aspect of the point and click genre is the constant monotonous trial and error of trying to find the CORRECT way to advance the story, otherwise hitting dead ends, and Twelve Minutes really amplifies it to an unacceptable amount.

To advance the story in any way (even minor) you have to do a specific set of tasks in a specific order the developers want you to follow. Any time you find a piece of useful information, you can advance the story, but only at the end of the time-loop where you ended - and there's no way to quickly return to that state, which really feels like a waste of time.

By the time you learn you did something correct, the difference is so minor it feels like you barely made any progress at all (There IS a way to speed up going back to where you left off with previous information later in the story, but the game still falls into that problem of making you feel like you've made minor/no progress).

Doing any task incorrectly or doing something wrong just puts you back at the start of the time-loop with the feeling you haven't learned anything or made any progress. I had to use a walkthrough guide to know what to do and how, and by the time the story was unfolding it was just so cliché and felt contrived. It is such a time sink for nothing.

This amazing soundtrack does not have the songs in a lossless format like FLAC nor does it contain the new songs from Advanced Edition, both of which can be gotten (for free!) from Ben Prunty's bandcamp.

A short, two hour long game that's less of a "horror" game and more of a "spooky" game. It actually runs on your desktop and opens some applications like Paint and cmd.exe to ♥♥♥♥ with the player in a way that accentuates the horror aspect. Genuinely frightening at some parts, but trying too hard to be scary in others. Certain parts of the game and effects like the gunshot or the bedroom are portrayed with convincing realism in an innovative stylistic manner. It later ditches the horror aspect for an ending that's kind of sweet....
Overall, it feels like a proof of concept for reminding game devs and players alike the potential a metagame can reach, and I love it for that!! Worth the price and great fun!
