i highly recommend this game

i do like the card game of yu-gi-oh and think a lot of the issues specifically with this game are not so much an issue with the card game itself (slightly) but how the player base is and how the current card pool/powercreep has made it really really unfun to play especially in an online ranked setting
the amount of time i've spent on this game both on steam and console has been really frustrating for the most part (but at times can be rewarding) because a lot of the time i get paired with someone who will use the most disrespectful plays or outright just OTK possibly for grinding
i trust the heart of the cards but i've hit a point where it doesn't feel like i'm making any sort of meaningful progress as a duelist or really learn from anything since i have no way to counter a lot of the same 3 deck archetypes that give you free negates or banishment at no cost what-so ever
obviously YGO was designed to be a more simpler version of MTG and its first couple years showed that with how everything was in a meta sense
fast forward 25 years and the card game as evolved vastly
and don't get me wrong i love that the game has gotten more complex as time goes on
my problem more so is how people will cheese wins in this game and i think if i were to play this in a real world setting it wouldn't have this much of an issue
what i'm trying to say is that master duel is not beginner friendly and not for people like me who want to have some sort of meaningful experience because of how people online play
if more people put trust into their cards rather than rely on what is "meta viable" people will rethink how they approach playing not just master duel but the game as a whole
as for presentation i've said all the way back in 2022 that this game has no real style to it
it's a very barebones experience and compared to duel links the same type of energy isn't there with the mates and field themes
it would be one thing if this was just an early thing and as time goes on there were more and more items to give a sense of personalization but as it stands this game has been out for over 2 years now and still has not found a specific style to its presentation
if you are a diehard masochist player who enjoys more toxic plays at high ranks then sure try this game out
but as for me and probably a good majority of players i think if you want a real experience with the card game you should try maybe 'legacy of the duelist' or go out and try playing with real cards since it's fairly cheap if you want a more casual experience to meet people and have fun which was the intent that takahashi had with the series since day one

Give it a shot if you can.
