This game is ridiculous. It is infuriatingly difficult in the later stages - but that's why I love 2D platformers.

Warning: if you buy this game, you will laugh a whole lot.

You will be hard-pressed to find a game that is both deeply challenging and provides a narrative that makes each loss you take feel like a personal failure. The game does not hold your hand, and you are *forced* to think about each strategic decision you make.

The remastered editions are beaufitul, exquisitely detailed and worth a few multiplayer matches lost due to gawking at the battles. While there are some significant day-1 bugs, GBX and BBI have promised support and the community is heavily involved in scouring the game for any and all necessary improvements.

The classic versions are just as I remember, and they no longer require edits to command line options or registry content to get them to run correctly.

Buy this game. If you love strategy games and you love to THINK, this game is for you.

Early Access Review
I've been waiting for Hawken to finally release as Free to Play to the general public for some time, and I'm happy to say the wait was well worth it.

Simply put, this game provides some satisfying mech carnage. I particularly like the Co-op bot survival mode, where you and three other players get together and see how long you'll last against ever increasing numbers of angry bots. Every five rounds, youll get a tough boss, too. If your team works well together, you'll take it down.

The free to play model doesn't bother me, as I work for a game company who survives on micro transactions. If I find something I want my mech to use, I'll support the dev and buy it. So far I have not felt compelled to do so, since the game is very accessible - they reward you with in-game currency to spend on whatever you wish. Though, you accrue that currency very slowly.

Final word: Try this game out. You won't regret it.
