gamedev is torture

(Most of my Playtime was during early access a year or two ago, played again recently)

This game has fantastic visuals, atmosphere, and dialogue from what I've played, but....

I do not care for the combat system, and it's a deal breaker. People online say it's serviceable, and I could not agree less. combat is the worst part of this game. I can't really articulate it, but it just feels wrong. running and jumping feel nice, but attacking and blocking sucks. Combat isn't even really rewarding in any way. Magic feels good, though. I'm not expecting Dark Souls, hell, I'm not even expecting Morrowind (which actually has a very fun combat system once you learn it), but when I play this game today I can't help but feel that the combat system and enemy AI could use a little more time in the oven. Visually, it's alright, but mechanically, no.

a word of advice: do NOT install the better balanced combat mod. it is neither better nor balanced.

the game itself is good, there needs to be more of a penalty for alt-f4ing in the middle of a game. the character used to explode but I haven't seen that in a while.

PLAY. THIS. GAME. Make sure you also buy a box of tissues. or five boxes. or an entire palette.

First few hours are really slow, and the escort mission does not help at all, but once you get past that this game is sooo goood
